Default Mapam F/C warning !!!!!!

Was approaching a stop sign the other day and went to slow down with the rear brake and low and behold the peg was gone. Not sure but it must have fallen off sometime during the ride.Tried retracing the route with no luck on finding it.The Mapam website is no help at all there isnt anyway to contact them to see if its possibble to order replacement pegs.Did a web search and the only place i could find them was at a place called Motoleather, unfortunately they said this part has been discontinued and they didnt have any left in stock.Does anyone know of anywhere to get replacement pegs for these F/C's or possibly different ones that will work with the mapam F/c's.Thanks for any help

ok, this might be obvious to some, but i'm completely confused. . . if the peg for the forward control was gone, wouldn't the dragging foot on the pavement have alerted you it was missing before going to apply the rear brake? what was holding your foot up? i only ask because i have those installed on my bike.

The "pegs" for the brake pedal and shifter are bolted through the arms for each lever (female-mount so the bolt theads INTO the peg itself)...the footpegs on each side have a bolt that runs through the mount end (standard footpeg mounting setup)...he didn't lose a footpeg, he lost the brake pedal peg. And since you don't ride at speed with your foot over the brake pedal (at least I don't), it must have vibrated out and fallen off- even if it hit his boot, he probably assumed it was a rock. I know on my bike just looking down to the right side controls means I see more airbox than footpeg...

I've not seen any issues with my MAPAM setup yet. Will doublecheck to see if any loosening has occurred though.

Good luck finding a new peg Joe...perhaps you could just get a set of matched pegs for a Harley shifter that would work (though I think "Harley" shifter pegs usually have a male-mount stud attachment. The MAPAM pegs are female mounts with a bolt through the arm and into the peg.)

I actually wonder if somehow the bolt didn't break. It would take a long time of riding for it to vibrate and loosen finally to the point of falling off. That I think would have been noticed.....just thinking out loud.
Anyway at least you have the equipment at work to make a new one.

I agree totally Don- mine are still tight...and if I recall, the bolts were at least an inch and a half long, fine thread to boot...

Good luck searching the net- and if that fails, even better luck on the lathe Joe!

ok, at least i'm on the same page as you guys now when i saw peg, i was thinking footpeg one thing i did notice about these forward controls is how tight those pegs are and as a result, i've been very cautious on my leans in turns. the stock pegs fold up easily, as i've scraped them here and there, but i'm afraid to scrape these due to how tight they are. what do you guys think regarding this?

What I did when I installed mine was compare the lean angle to the stock set up, and it was pretty much about the same, well mostly because of the little indicator that hung below the stock pegs. However, I've also been wondering about how tight they fit and plan to do something about that. Maybe machine down the part of the peg that slips into the mount so it'll have more "wiggle" room. When I first installed them they seemed to fold up a little easier than they do right now and I've found myself using the heel of my boot as an indicator so that I don't actually scrape the peg until I get around to making those fold up easier again.

What torques me is i only had them on for 2 weeks and checked them for tightness before i installed.I whipped out a temp. peg at work today so i would be able to use the rear brake.Just need to remove the shift peg now and draw up a blueprint, then when the boss is gone whip it out.

Just had to pull this back up. This weekend I finally got around to dealing with my pegs....and it was just too easy. A bit of grease in there and they fold up very easily now....DOH When I first installed them they were tight but folded up, as time progressed I could barely fold them even by kicking on them. Not afraid scrape them now.

I've lost the bolt from a highway peg once. Just happened to glance in the mirror as I seen something shiny bouncing down the road and thought, "hey, that looked like a piece of chrome" and didn't think anything else...until 20 feet later when I swung my foot from the stock peg to the highway peg...and promptly just about put my foot onto the ground: as the peg was gone. Did a u-turn...found my peg ...never did find the bolt. Next one I loc-tited.
