Red face My seat Mod

O.K., here's my attempt at modding my seat inspired by Bad X VTXOA / VTXRiders.com :: View topic - seat mod pictures

Pic. 1 - I removed the seat and marked where I wanted to shape.

Pic. 2 - I used a cordless drill with a sander attachment.

Pic. 3 - After my cordless drill ran out of juice and then finding out my other battery did not charge due to a faulty charger, I took a knife to it. I knew I should have invested in an electric grinder. Oh well no going back now.

Pic. 4 - After hacking it up I sanded it by hand to try to smooth it out.

Pic. 5 - Front view.

Default What have I done?!!

After I had achieved the height I wanted it was time for me to put the cover back on. I thought this was going to be difficult and would look awful since there was going to be wrinkles in the seat.

However after heating up the cover a little bit I managed to stretch it out so it didn't seem to look too bad.

Here is the Original height compared to about a 2 inch cut. Then finally with the cover back on.

I have not tried the seat out yet but will update if it feels any different.

Nice work. Im curious to hear if it is more comfortable, or god-forbid, the opposite.

Do you have a pic of it on your bike?

I always pop the seat cover in the dryer on high for about 10-15 minutes and they shrink tight every time.

I haven't tested it yet and I actually should have waited to mount it on the bike before I put the cover back on but I was too eager to see what it would look like finished. I knew that I would probably have to tinker with the seat height anyways. Better to take not enough off than too much.

I lightly heated the seat cover with a heat gun and had to push the staples in by hand using pliers because the staple gun wasn't able to put the staples all the way in.

Looks good, Snafu

I sent my seat off today to Allen at Meancity cycles. I think he's going to do something similar, and move me back a couple of inches on the seat. I figure if it's not perfect I still have the Airhawk cushion, but I'm sure it'll be much better than sitting flat on it as we do now.

Makes me wonder what the seats are like on the cafe racer type bikes...long and flat..

I added more foam, and removed the lump, by removing a wedge on the side, and the rear lip.
Removing the lump made more difference than adding the foam.

I added the foam to change the shape of the seat, - I found I was always sitting on the back edge anyway. It is now the same height as the pillion seat, which means I sit on both. 700 mile daily rides are now possible.

I posted this in feb this year, so will be still on the site (with pics)

Hope it made the differnce for you -

Well today I started the M up for the first time.
I put the seat on and it feels pretty good. It moves me up and lets me sit a little lower than the stock height. Hopefully in the next few days I'll be able to have more seat time in it but so far so good.

Default ques on your seat mod..

Hi all, do you find your mod (of trimming the seat cushion down) change your distance to your foot controls..(closer or farther) I too want to get this mod done but do not want to sit and closer to the foot controls ?
Any info is appreciated.

What I've noticed the most is that I'm lower and shaped the seat so that I can be closer to the foot control.

If you're looking to sit back more then I suggest you do what peter-reebok and boooya did by removing that lump on the back part of the seat.

Here is the link.

Edit: Oops, I see you've been there.

Ya I think your right,, that is going to bring me closer to the controls.
Well thanks for helping me with my decision. I think I will simply have the lump at rear/top of the seat reworked.
thanks again.
