Default my Cruzers are on!

And holy cow, do they sound great. I figured I would de a sort of walk through, as I conastantly see questions about whether people should install their own pipes, or have the dealership do it. This isn't as comprehensive as it could be, but if you're thinking about having someone do the install for you, this might help you realize that you can indeed install your own pipes.

Firstly, Vance and Hines has a great se of directions for the heat shields. Follow them, get them installed on the pipes, and I'll start, assuming you've already got the shields on. Don't tighten the clamps all the way yet on those heat shields, leave them movable, you'll need the flexability later, I promise.

So...we've got a couple different types of bolts we need to address:

The front and rear header bolts. These are 6 mm hex key size, and have their own little tidbits...

The front:

THe right side one is really easy, especially if you either don't have case guards, or you take the top bolt ooff your case guards and move them a bit. Simple stuff, loosen it and take it off.

The left one is a little trickier, as there's not a ton of room to work with. Be patient, it'll come off, it just takes a while longer than the other one because of the limited space to work.

The rear header bolts are tough to get to at first:

But, if we remove the right side cover using this screw...(a 4 mm hex key):

We get this...tons of room to work:

so, remove the rear header bolts using our 6 mm hex key again.

Now, the pipes are connect to the back of the bike too, and here you were hoping you were done.

These sort of hide, so look between your stick pipes in the back, and you'll find them hiding under there.

The top and rear view of those same bolts..
