Just a question for if i even get a flat battery .......

Can you clutch start ,or roll start , the M50 ??
Just wondering if it would be any different as its EFI and shaft drive

If YES then whats the drill ??? 2nd gear ect???

Not sure!.
Being EFI, there has to be fuel pressure as well as the diags run through when you start it up.

With cars, there has to be a minimum voltage at the ECU or else no instruction to add fuel or spark.

I had a flat battery at the weekend, and just jumped it from the car.

You have to remove the seat, but that is a 2 minute job only.
Being 12 volt, there is no issue with jumping from a car.

Crap never thought of that on this bike. I sure hope I don't ever have to push start this bike, but it would be nice to know that I could if need be.

I understand that the shaft drive makes it tougher, too. Not sure why, exactly.

You can plug your ipod into the jack on the backside of the EFI, check your service manual.

Its not the shaft drive thats the problem, I know that its still not to bad to push start a shaft drive bike from my first two bikes. Which is partly why I got a new one. So can anybody comfirm you can do that on this bike?

I spoke to our mechanics here, and they told me that EFI cars (generally) cannot be roll started, as until there is at least 13 volts to the ECU, spark and fuel will be absent.

I expect Bikes are the same.

Well...that isn't what I wanted to hear.

Perhaps I won't ever have to try and do this...I'll have to keep my fingers crossed!

I tried once when the battery died and nothing. So, with my experience, not possible with a dead battery.

It is possible--been there, done that, fired it up!

My husband borrowed my bike for a quick run to the store. When he got home, he accidentally took the key out in the "parking" position, and didn't notice the tail light on. When we went to ride to our friends party a couple of days later, dead battery. One of our elderly neighbors said she was curious about the light staying on all night and into the next day, but forgot what unit we lived in.

So I hopped on the bike, my husband pushed, and I popped the clutch (in first), the bike bucked a bit when it grabbed, so I quickly pulled in the clutch and braked--but it stayed running! Later I found out that it should be done in second gear so that it doesn't grab so much and possibly throw it's rider. Important thing is it can be done!

Thanks for the INfo - it is useful!.

Since I have spare batteries and jump starters at home, easier (one person) to jump it. But - will come in handy sometime in the future no doubt.
