Question The Wonderful M50 Seat

As I've read before and experienced for myself, the stock seat on the M50 sucks. After an hour, I have to get up and walk around. Needless to say this upsets the other people I ride with so I figured I'd break down and invest in a new seat. I'd like a Mustang, because those seem to be rated the highest, but I can't seem to find one made for an '05 M50. So I have been comparing the Saddlemen Explorer and the Corbin two-up touring. I was wondering if anyone out there had used either of these on their bikes and could let me know what they think of them. Also, I can't find the dimensions for the Saddlemen. I am a pretty big guy and don't want a seat pan made for someone who weighs 100 lbs. If anyone has dimensions for the Saddlemen I'd appreciate those too.

There are a few existing threads on these seats, try using the search function, it should pull up some info for you.

I had the same problem, and have modded the seat a few times.
The latest mod appears to do the trick - 2 hr ride with no probs.
Was posted last week - with pics. Essential to the mod success is retaining the pillion seat - one of the issues seems to be the length of the seat.

Saddleman doesn't have one for the M50. As for the Corbin if you do buy may I suggest Oneida Suzuki, they're selling them for 25% less than Corbin's direct price. I have the Corbin classic solo w/pillion and like it a lot better than the stock seat.

How can they be so much cheaper?

I'm sure it's just as simple as buying in bulk from Corbin and getting a big price cut per seat that way. Just economics, a contract to buy so many seats at once, would give them a lot of negotiating power, even more than say setting up a group buy with a manufacturer for a discount rate through a forum which I've seen many times also, since even then the manufacturer still ends up shipping to numerous separate addresses instead of just loading it all up on one truck to go to one destination like they would with Oneida. Besides that I'm sure Oneida's contract is for many many more seats than a typical group buy would be for.

If it's anything like the S50 seat I feel for ya. I got a sheep skin cover from alaskanleather.com that helped alot and it was only $50. Took a while to get used to looking at it (think fuzzy dice), but it does work pretty well and keeps the seat cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

cyclesinct,

I have the dual-tour, stinger and the rumble seat from Corbin. As for driver comfort, they all are great and do a heck of a better job than the stock seat. As for passenger comfort, the dual-tour is the best. Stinger has no real back seat for a passenger (but heck, my 6 yr old doesn't have that big of a butt yet). The rumble just doesn't feel right. The passenger seat is flat and the backrest doesn't fold out completely and makes you lean forward a little. My son also gives the thumbs up to the dual tour for comfort.

If you want any pics, let me know. Didn't really get much seat time on the stinger and rumble since they came in towards the end of riding season, but going to try some time this year on the two to see if either is better than the dual tour.

If you want pics of any of the 3, let me know.

I just ordered a Corbin for my 919 from Over 250,000 Motorcycle Parts & Accessories. Check us out!. Corbin lists the seat for $399, and I got it for $305. They didn't have it listed on their site, but I emailed them and they got one from Corbin no problem. I would try them when you are price checking if I were you.

I'll get the bike out Tue or Wed and take pics of all 3 seats and post them. I know the dual-tour is posted on here and think the stinger may be, but will take updated pics.

You know I've read many a thread about people complaining about the M50 seat. There is a very simple sloution to this problem....

I just had my Butt replaced...I found it easier, cheaper...and with so many models to choose from nowadays...it was just the right thing to do.

I went with the 'Corsair' model, it's sleek looking and the price was perfect for me. BTW, it's completely removable and can be worn as a hat too.

Thanks for the heads up on the Saddlemen seat. I have come across a few websites that sell Saddlemen seats for the M50, but I wonder if they're being sneaky and its really for the Marauder 800. So correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems Corbin is really the only place making an aftermarket seat for the M50? I know Suzuki has one, but I've read some bad stories about that one, and I'm not about to have one custom made. If there are any other brands people have for recommendations, please leave them. Thanks for all of the help!

Same here...only other one worth looking into was Corbin...and they do look nice too...it's just that they're not as inexpensive as I'd like them to be.

Don't discount a custom seat just yet. The cheapest Corbin (stinger) lists for $449. The most expensive lists at $899, plus extra for the backrests if you want them ($250 a piece!). I've seen plenty of custom seats made for the same price.

I think the Saddlemen seats are a reality for the M50. I just got a Dennis Kirk catalog in the mail (old school, I realize), but there is a picture of the Saddlemen explorer on an M50. Looks similar to the Corbon Dual Tour. The catalog lists a couple different Saddlemen models for the M, but no pictures. Prices are a bit higher than others, but I know Dennis Kirk makes good on the price match.
