Question What handlebars?

Hi all,
I'm looking at changing my handlebars since I'm a shorty at barely 5'4" and the bars make me lean forward to get a good reach on them for comfortable control.

My questions are:
How do I know which bars work on the m50?
How do I know what cables to get for the changed bars? (This by the way is what started the idea of new bars since my hubby wanted to get me the braided cables anyways.)
Do any of you have bars that you can reccommend? (Talking about handlebars, not after job refreshment. )

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the M50, but can't you just loosen the bars and reposition them?

Thanks for trying Robert--but that is how I got the 1" I needed to be able to reach to begin riding the bike safely. If I rotate it any more, it hits the tank when trying to hard lock a turn--so not an option.

No problem. Have you tried the search function? I thought there were some handlebar threads around, maybe those may be of assistance. Maybe try here also Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Accessories by BikeBandit.com

There has been quite a bit of discussion on this in other threads. I don't know which one. But I believe the C50 bars may be an inch wider but they are pulled back farther, maybe by as much as 2-3 inches. measure your bars for height, pull back, and rise. Then go to a dealer and measure the C50 bars. I think you could get them to work without doing much to the cables, possibly just rerouting them under the triple trees, instead of over like the are. I was thinking about doing the same thing, but I seem to have gotten used to the M50 bars.

C50 bars are a direct fit replacement, only have to route the cables behind the tree instead of in front. I got mine from Oneida Suzuki for about $80.

I got some rather large bars from a local dealer in the UK.

The clutch cable can be re routed to gain around 6" so that should be fine, I made my longer throttle cables.. if you need info let me know, Ill be glad to assist in any way I can.

I too am a "shorty" but now I ride upright and man its a different bike.

LadyC

I found I leaned to far forward as well. I'm 5' 8"
I purchased:

"Bikers Choice Custom V-Twin Chrome Handlebars, Standard Wide Boy" # BC400222

I got them from Xtreme Revolution for about $45.
They are 33.5" wide, 5" rise & 8.5" pullback.

I found I had to re-route all my cables behind the steering stem & was not happy with that. The brake line was a bit tight as well.

I purchases a set of almost new C50 cables (2 throttle, 1 clutch) on ebay for $10!!. I was going to cut & lengthen them as Trojan did BUT I found they were longer than the M50 ones & I could install them with the correct routing.

They are a great fit with lots of slack.

I bought an SS braided Goodrich brake hose that was 3" longer than standard & that also fits nicely.

The new bars feel much more comfortable & my hands fall more naturally.

I have not been out with them & won't until mid March when the snow starts to go.

Have you thought about some longer risers instead of new bars? I saw some while surfing recently, I think it was a SCOOTWORKS Belt Drives, lowering kits, handlebar risers, motorcycle parts and accessories, chrome bolts, but I didn't look specifically for M50 applications.

Let us know what you decide to install.
