Question Rear Tire for the M50 Size 200?

I hear people talking about a 200 size rear tire. What is the benefit. Is it just for looks. How much bigger is it. What would it change on the bike, speedometer, gearing and etc. How must would I expect to pay. What brand.

THANKS

metzler is best. avon 200 is too big. no mechanical benefit. it just looks cool. it does affect handling a little, but not much. you can expect to pay anywhere from $180 to $230 for the metzler. i get mine from cruizercustomizing.com

How does it affect handling.

Wider tires have a flatter shape (unless the rim is way too small). Since it's the rear tire that turns the bike, it tends to slow steering.

i agree with rowdy, it does slow the steering a little, just a little. i had the avon on mine for a while. it was too wide in the "shoulders" and rubbed the drive shaft. i loved the avon for "stickyness" and handling. i have a 180 metzler on now and like it too. i would rather have the 200 because it fills in the fender area. btw, i grew up near Jonesboro, Ark. where are you located?

I live in Manila. It is about 35 miles east of Jonesboro on highway 18. You have heard of it.

sure i've heard of it. i grew up about 30 miles west of J town on Hwy 63 in Black Rock. i'm sure you've heard the commercial on the radio for Cavenaugh Ford. that's about all that place is known for.

Absolutely, I know right where Black Rock is. How did you end up in Carolina?

Someone had posted a side by side pic. of a 200 and stock tire. It gives you a good look at he difference.

I tried searching for the thread but couldn't find it. Hopefully that someone sees this and re-post it.

Will all of the numbers be the same except for the 200. Will I have plenty of clearance for this tire. How much can I expect to pay?

the only 200 i can find at cruiser customizing is this: Metzeler ME 880 Marathon XXL 20060VR-16 Rear and it goes for $160. this has a smaller profile. what you want is a 70 or 80 profile. the 60 may work, but i'm just not sure of it. the military brought me here 14 years ago. the wife kept me here. my dad owns the truck sales lot on the left of HWY 63 just before you get to the Hoxie bypass if you know where that is.

No its not a 16" rear tire, look for 15" by 70 profile.
Look here:

great site with good prices. they are easier to navigate than cruiser customizing and their prices are the same when you add the shipping cost. they have a very nice selection too. i will def try them out next time. thanks blue.

Is this the size you have on your M50 180/70HB-15 REAR ?
