| Most of my riding is not short rides, mostly rides of 300-500km at a time. Not happy with the stock seat. OK, but certainly not the best. This topic has been done to death on the VR forum, MIG forum, and here. There are quite a few solutions. I chose the one that doesn't cost $400. Total cost - $9, and I have foam to do 3 seats! So, today, I bought some high density foam (for gymnastic mats, it is waterproof already, and wont disintegrate over time) about an inch thick, cut to size, pulled off the seat cover, added on top, and refixed the cover. Stretching the cover was the hardest part!. Tomorrow I will see if it does the trick. Seat height is about 3/4 inch higher than stock, less when I am sitting on it LOL. Now plenty of padding over the tailbone hump!. When you remove the cover, it is plain that there is less than a quarter of an inch padding over the 'hump' for the seat mount/bolts. No wonder it hurts after 2-3 hrs!. Used a std light duty hand stapler (6 mm staples) to re attach the cover, no problems at all. Have attached a couple of pics. The seat is now clearly flatter rather than dipped. Didn't take pics of the std seat - we all know what it looks like! |

| 250km ride today. At the point where it used to be painful, it is now uncomfortable. Obviously it is not a complete fix, but getting closer! AND, 5 minutes out of the saddle, and I was good to go again, and another 50km later - I am just like new. Expecting that some 'break in' time may be needed. but the worst is over!. Planning a road trip in feb, approx 2500km in 4 days, and happy I can make it without sleeping on my stomach now! My wife says to inform you that my Gym mats comment is not completely accurate - YOGA MATS is more accurate, and I believe they also sell it for putting under sleeping bags when camping. |

| Good work! As much as my butt was screaming during my long days, it never felt sore after I was off the bike. Most butt-burn is just poor circulation, so it goes away almost immediately.

| Peter, when you took off the seat cover, is the foam under there glued on and is it just one piece? Just thinking what if that stock foam can be replaced with a better type of cushion.

| I removed only half the cover, so I could get it back on straight!. From memory, it is glued. But nothing a quick wash with acetone couldn't fix! There is plenty of room for more padding material. I added an inch, and would guess that there is roonm for another inch if desired. Next time, I may reshape the seat contour. Other people have removed the staples a number of times, One guy stated 15 times. Will ride it for a month or so before I decide. |

| I bought an office chair gel pad on sale for $10. It has a cover with a non slip bottom & just sits on top of the seat. Winter here so haven't tried it yet, I'm hopeful though. Most of my rides are 200 - 300 km with a p break in there, but I do have some long trips planned.

| I thought about a sheepskin cover the same way. In summer heat, a second cover is a good idea. Beware the gel seat if you leave it in the sun though!. Have one on the pushbike, and it will burn your butt and nether regions when you sit on it. |

| Hey Peter, you should shave down some of the solid hard foam of the stock seat and add a thin layer of soft foam and recover. That helps alot in comfort. I did it to my stock seat and it worked out great. http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...highlight=seat
