Thanks for the info. I just looked at their store site and they also sell backrests for 122 bucks with free shipping. Has anybody bought from these guys before?

Default install?

does anyone know what is involved with the install. do you have to replace your cables and rods like the john's kit !?

Custom Lowering bones and forward controls for Volusias and New Boulevard C50

-or is it a simple bolt on operation?...

thanks

I have Johns kit on my bike. It was a simple process. You don't have to change any cables, and you just have to swap the brake rod. Thats it.

These Mapam controls look very nice though. Im looking at the picture and for what I can tell it looks like is will be a fairly easy install as well. If you pay attention the right set for the brake, you can see how the extended the lever system. So you completely remove the old brake from the bolt area and put the new system in its place. Though that is only going by what I can see in the picture. Now I am unsure about the clip for the brake light...

If you look at the left set you can see the extended shift linkage that will screw into your existing rod after the removal of the stock set up.

So at 245.00 shipping included it looks as if they would be well worth the cash if you have it spend. I myself would consider getting them but again I have the Johns kit installed and have moved on to other area's of the bike that need attention.

I bought a set of them from the seller on ebay.i had no problems with the guy
and very fast shipping.i did install them and they do fit good and look great.the down side is you do have to remove your engine guards if you have any on.the shifting and brake pedal touch the the eng.guards by about 1/2 inch at the very most.but that problem can be very easily solved and someday when i have time i'll fix it.sorry i don't have pics not yet

SHOW US DAMN YOU! SHOW US DAMN YOU! SHOW US DAMN YOU!

chrome, did you have the stock suzuki engine gaurds? I'm hesitant to remove those, I like 'em. I wonder if you can install a plate at the bottom of the bar and rotate the bottom of the bar forward?

geoff i did have the suzuki gaurds.but the up side is when you put your forward controls on your adding alot off chrome up front and i'm starting to think it looks better.problem with the controls is when they were made they made the spacers between the footplate and the frame 1/2 inch to short.no big deal just get new longer bolts and chrome washers put the washers in by the frame and you'll never see them.the only real problem is in the new linkage for the shifting lever.i'm not shore if theres enough play in it to move it out.theres diffently ssome but not sure how much yet never really played with it yet.i'll try to get some pics up tomorrow.

Got off work early today....forward controls got installed Still had enough time for a test ride around the neighborhood for a bit before I needed to be back for my daughter from school. I am loving the extra leg room and I really like that my feet have extra room on the peg without pushing my toes outward a little to stay off the brake pedal/shifter. Now I'm really itching for a nice long cruise with the Corbin seat and these forward controls....but the weatherman said he had different plans for the weekend.
Anyway, here's a few quick pics as promised.

Those look awesome! I'm guessing that peg will pop right out to put my zombies on?

Not real sure about that geoff, the peg mount for these is about 1/8" of an inch narrower than the stock if that helps. Also these will fold back but only if I smack it with my hand (or if layed down of course), they don't fold up easy like the stock pegs do. These mount with a bolt that goes through the mount and peg and just tightens into threads on the other lower side of the mount

Don, how was the install? Did the kit include different rods for the rear brakes/clutch lever (like the John's Kit does), or did it use stock points and just add springs/links?

Looks sharp...and how do you like the Classic Solo so far?

The install was easy, well easy enough considering you really only get exploded pictures to look at with no numbered sequence to follow, but yes easy-about an hour. They reuse the splined shaft part for the brakes that slides through the mount so it's all still stock springs and locations for that, but otherwise everything on that side is new including the female splined part that connects to the stock part and includes an adjustable rod for brake pedal position. The shifter side reuses the part that connects to the shifting rod, it just gets flipped around the opposite direction and there is an extended adjustable rod that connects up to it. Pretty slick kit, especially for the price through that source on ebay

And I'm loving the new seat....feels like it was made just for me. Like you said it's like sitting "in" a seat, fully supported instead of "on" the stock seat. Between that and the forward controls it's like I'm lounging while riding LOL

So the real difference is in how it mounts to the brake side- the John's Kit replaces the stock brake rod with a longer version. Sounds simple enough...and we'll see soon enough since I ordered one for my bike ($235)...

Yeah...that seat really changes the feel of the bike, don't it!? It's only going to get better as it breaks in!

Just to follow up (almost a month later)...

I just installed my Mapam kit, and it was indeed quite simple! And they look really cool on there. Unfortunately, we got 2 feet of snow while I was down at Fort Dix (where we got a couple inches of ICE...JOY!), and between plowing and drifting, my garage is now blocked in by a four foot high snowbank....

Sitting on her just in the garage, the pedal locations seem comfortable, and about the same reach increase as the John's kit managed to give me. All in all, not a bad investment. Here are close pics of the kit installed on each side. If you had the John's Kit installed, you'll have to re-install the factory brake rod. Also, you'll have to remove the John's Kit and factory shift rods, and turn the splined shift arm upside down for the Mapam clutch rod. Beyond that, the install is pretty straightforward, though like Don M50 said, the Mapam instructions are just exploded diagrams and nothing else.

Oh, and in the third pic, that 'white blotch' is the snowbank just outside my garage door, but the sun bleached it out on me!
