Default What do other riders think of your M50?

About two weeks ago, my Yamaha-riding buddy told me that he didn't like the looks of my M50 when I bought it. After I added my saddlebags and other accessories, he's softened up to it. But it's been playing with my mind. Now when someone asks me what I ride, I find myself giving a conditional response; "I ride a Boulevard M50, but..."

What do other riders think of your M50? Does this bike get any respect from the big boys?

I usually get thumbs up and such. It's nice, but I don't much care what others think of my bike. I'm happy and if someone else doesn't like it, then they don't have to buy one.

Who are these so-called "big boys"? The folks I leave in my dust when they act arrogant and ignorant?

I don't get attitide from anyone about my bike, in fact most people like it...If anybody states their opinion and it's wrong......I point out that if I wanted to be a poser I'd have gotten a bike like theirs...

But, alas, I'm aaalll me baby...."Just Me"

Tell your buddy to pound sand and pay more attention to the road and less attention to what's on it...OH, one more thing....nobody should care what you ride.

Yeah... Most people respect the M50 because it IS a very respectable bike. I've never even ran into someone ON a Harley who's had something bad to say about it, although I run into people all of the time who say.. "It's nice but not a Harley" or "Nah, I'd rather have a Harley" or "I have a Harley at home, I won't own that foreign junk". I love it when these people throw the whole "American Made" thing in your face... My very FIRST question to them always shuts them right up. "What kind of TV do you have at home?" But like I said, you never see these guys actually on a bike. It seems like it's always the people that don't have anything are the ones that talk the most crap. That goes for everything too, not just bikes.

I personally think the Japanese build a better bike. I think they have a lot more research in them, and a lot better technology. I've met a few Harley guys who even agree.

It was summed up elsewhere on this forum.

On a Japanese bike, sometimes small bits of paint fall off.
On a harley, whole parts fall off.

I have not had much comment at all, other than

'Thats a lot of bike for that sort of money"

Same here...most people I meet say that it's a bunch of bike for the price.

The other one they say, which is my favorite..."Suzuki? Really? Wow...I really like what they've started doing with their bikes!"

As if this was something new.

I'll let you know a little secret I have a 07 HD now and I can say without a doubt I had many, many more postive comments about my M50 then I have with my new HD.

I think your Yamaha riding buddy is just jealous.......I've had nothing but big compliments on the M50.

I've had many comments like "wow, that's different"... or "I've never seen a bike like that before" and my favorite "I didnt know Harley made a sporty bike"

LOL... some I explain it to... some, will never get it.

Screw what others think of your ride man. Whether or not you enjoy it is what should really count, but sure, it does still feel good to get positive feedback, which is all I've received so far. It seems everybody digs the blacked out look & the price I paid for it.

I'm still pretty new at this bike thing, but I've laughed my ars off when I've pulled alongside an HD a couple times & the whole damned thing (& rider too!!) is shaking to beat hell. Is it aftermarket changes that cause that or is it out of the box like that?

Oh, rest assured, many riders wouldn't live without it. The current issue of Cycle World talks about how some die-hard HD guys admire the way their bars shake at idle.

I've had either positive comments or blank stares as soon as I say "Suzuki Boulevard".....I don't even get to the M50 part at that point, because it's obvious they expected me to say Harley or something....lol. I don't care...I love the bike Plus, now thanks to motorcycle.com....it's great fun to say "And yeah, this bike beat out a Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, AND Harley for cruiser of the year!"

My experiences are a lot like PetCop's - I get really positive comments or blank stares. Mine's debadged and all emblems/stickers removed. I love sitting in a resturaunt and watching the people walking by and looking it over and scratching their heads! I get the biggest kick out of that! I've gotten "What kind of Harley is THAT?!" a few times. -LOL- I loved the looks on their faces when I told them it's a Suzuki.

Thanks for all the replies. I got thinking after my original post... I shouldn't care what anyone thinks. I did a ton o'research, sat on virtually all bikes in my price range, and made up my mind for ME.

The most important thing to me is that I AM riding. I was reminded on my way home from werk today.

Ride on.

Dude you shouldnt care what other riders think. Thats like me saying "Your wife isnt my type" does that mean she's not worth it? its all about YOUR choice. I could of gotten a fancy ass CBR999 or something but I knew the M50 was the right back for me. ROCK ON

I must say i to chose the M50 over all the other bikes out there and i love it regardless as to what others think of it. But i do enjoy the compliments i get all the time about it and everybody staring at it at traffic lights or passing by on the street. I actually had a guy come up to me at a gas station-he was on a harley and so was his wife-and he asked me if the bike had a 1800cc engine in it, and it took everything i had not to laugh my a## off when his jaw hit the ground when i told him what the bike was and size engine it had-people checking it out all the time, its like a hot chick, its hard to keep your eyes of her
