Default New rider, first bike, M50!!!

Hi, I just got my m50 2 weeks ago, i'm i'm a new rider. the bike is a bit big i guess for a first year rider? i guess? but, i didnt want a 250 cruiser... and i hear a 650cc cruiser is too small?? so i went with the m50. anyways, since its almost winter time here in Canada, i bought the bike and started to prep it for winter storage. i was bored so, i decided to take pics on what i did to take the battery out... so here are some pics for reference for the people who don't know how to do it...

1.) remove the 1 bolt from the rear seat, and pull the seat towards the rear to pull it out.

2.) remove the 2 bolts that hold the rear seat bracket, which also holds the main seat. (noob at motorcycle terminology)

3.) remove the philips screw that hold the cable to the battery, pull off the cable (-)ive then (+)ive. and then you can pull the battery out.

I think your bike size is fine for a newbie.

Good stuff another GTA Rider, we are growing in numbers !
I think the M50 is a great bike to start off with or to re-enter the market with. You shouldn't outgrow it too quickly. Mind you the tempations are always there but one must remember the difference between want and need !
Maybe we can get a GTA ride going next season.

It was my first and I'm glad I did it. Easy to ride and maneuver, and I haven't outgrown it yet after a year.

Welcome, and good choice. Certainly wasn't my first bike, just the first street bike in a long time. I don't expect I'll be getting tired of it either any time soon. Just maybe add a sports bike also for depending on how I feel that day.

You will really love the bike as soon as you get used to the size. I thought the same thing when I first got mine,I don't think it now. By the way I am 5'10" 150 lbs. I believe it is just right. It's not too big and still big enough to scare the crap out of you. Gets great gas mileage too!

Default Thanks

Gunna drill the pipes next week (after first service) so thank you for the tip.
I have heard that I need to disconnect the battery for about 20 minutes, then let it idle for a while afterward to make sure the ECU resets itself to the new conditions.

Think I will leave off the pillion seat at that stage too.
Guy comes to quote on the flames as well - thinking Blue - Realistic flames at this point.

Meant to be 38 deg C tomorrow - will wait for a 20 degree day!.

the m50 wasn't my first bike to ride, but it is my first bike to own. i have owned it for a year and a half and i have no need to upgrade to a larger bike.

i found that because i have a car in the single car garage, i have to park the bike width wise. i'm smaller than you... (btw i'm asian) so the bike to me weighs a ton!! LOL!! for me, just duck walking the bike in reverse to up the drive way, was a workout... and getting the rear tire over the bump where the driveway meets the garage is a totally different story... but i have mananged to do it myself this time. the first day i had it my buddy had to help me get it over the hump... i had to put a board and use it as a tiny ramp, took a couple of tries, then i was finally able to park the bike in there lol.. maybe i should workout during the winter so i can get that bike in and out of there HAHAHA!

the M is a great bike starter or not. If you can take some kind of safety course if you can it helps alot
