Default gas smell - is this normal?

I just put a wind shield on my bike and now I notice that I can smell gas evry once in a while when riding. I'm wondering if I'm just noticing this now, because the windshield traps the smell so it can come up under my face sheild (3/4 helmet). Is this normal? If not, what should I check? It may also correlate to the colder weather now in New Hampshire, though the smell was pretty strong this morning and it was probably 60 or so out.

Windshields create a partial vacuum behind them, which causes buffeting and a swirl of trapped air. That's likely what's happening with the vapors. I'd look into adjusting the angle of the screen to eliminate the problem. Frankly, I'm surprise there's that much vapor up there, though. The tank should have a vent tube that moves it down low on the bike.

My bike always smells like gas when I have the windshield installed. It blocks just enough wind that the fumes can waft right up into your helmet. Like ranger said, not overwhelming, but enough to annoy.

That is so weird, I have never smelled gas fumes while riding and I have a windsheild as well. This question has come up in the past and some do and some dont'.

Can't be healthy, gasoline being carcinogenic and all.

Carcinogenic means cancer, not lightheadedness.

No. It's just that many prominent medical and research facilities are there and that they have problems with smog and other pollution not found elsewhere.

But you already knew that.

Yep, it sucks to drive back into Cali from say Oregon and see the brown sky ahead in the distance.

...In an effort to get this back on track.

I have noticed a gas odor as well. While not always there, if I splash the contents of the tank around too much, sure enough you'll be able to smell it.

However, I doubt this is anything to really worry about.

No i dont think think it is an issue, i think its just the fact that the gas filler is right in front of you and you catch the odor because the wind pushes it at you when you ride, much in the same way if you open your door to your gas filler on your car or truck and you smell gas, shouldnt be a problem, and if all else fails and you dont like the smell try an air freshner, works for those stinky cars
