Hey everyone, i know this won't be something you go out and pull apart anytime soon, but i found it to be noteworthy. i flat spotted my rear tire the other day when a wasp decided my inner thigh offended him. he stung me about 4 times, so i'm not sure what it was really, unless it was an entire heard of them. anyways, it was bad enough that i considered throwing the bike to the ground when i hit the dirt shoulder. i had to replace my rear tire because of it. the Avons are nice, but they are a super soft compound that does not take a skid very well. the point is, when i took the rear end apart, i found a lot of water intrusion around the bearings and the axle area with associated corrosion. i will be pulling the bearings later on to see the real damage. maybe i can get a few pics too.... one more thing, i think a little RTV around the axle head might fix that problem. only thing is the gear housing and wheel hub just mate up metal to metal and no way to seal it.
