Newbie in need of serious advice... - Motorcycle-Journal Forums

Good evening everyone, this is my first post concerning any type of motorcycle ever. I've recently decided that I want to purchase a M50 and I was hoping to get some advice from all of you. Here is my situation:

I'm in the military and I'm moving to another state in 8.5 months. I am a single and already have a small sports car with no towing capability. My thought is to buy a motorcycle to enjoy for the next 8 months and then turn around and sell it so I don't have to deal with transporting it from place to place every few years. This is unless I like it so much I want to keep it! After some research here are my two options:

1) Buy a 2007 for ~$7500 (tx, lic, everything included)
2) Buy a used 2005 for ~$5000 (if ajudkins is still selling and at that price)

Here is my dilemma:
1) Is $7500 a good price? (I bargained down from $8200)
2) Is 8 months too short a time to buy new, break in, and resell? (I only drive about 20 miles a day max).
3) Would I loose a lot of money on resell?
4) If I buy used (1600miles), are there any major drawback apart from it not being new and maybe the need to go in for the recall fix?
5) If I don't like the mods on the used one... is it then worth getting the 2007? (ISO grips and Jardine 2-2 pipes)

Thanks if you've read so far, any advice would be great as this is my first buy/ride.
