Default Removing stock pipes technique.

In all the threads I've been reading on installing non-stock pipes, no one seems to have had any problem with removing the originals. I'm now interested in going down the new pipes route, so I had a look at what's involved in getting off the headers from the cylinders. I couldn't get my 6?mm hex socket on the lower bolt on the rear exhaust header. It is obstructed from a straight entry into the bolt by a 1" tube that comes out of the bottom of the rear pot (what is that pipe for?). I think it's a standard hex socket I'm using. Access to the top one is a bit tight too, although I can see that the right hand side cover can be removed to help a bit. I won't order pipes until I'm sure I can get the originals off.

Is there a trick to this that I need to know?

Sorry to lower the forum to pretty basic tech stuff, but I have mangled a few hex bolts in my time thru ignorance.
