Default Handlebars stuck

Attempting to adjust my handlebars, I removed the bolts under the caps and took off the riser end covers but my bars wont budge. I even tried a hammer (lightly with cloth). Am I missing something, like more items to be removed before the bars will move? Help appreciated.....

I can't imagine the bars not moving especially with the riser caps off. My bars were loose as soon as I loosened up the bolts. I have a 2006 M50,but it should be similar. As a fact you have to be careful usually so the bars don't drop onto the tank and dent it. Most put a thick towel on the tank first.

Buchead, try tapping out your handlebars with a rubber mallet. The first and only time I had to remove the handlebars they were a bit tough to get out once all of the bolts and caps were removed, because they are held well in place by the grooves on the bar and on the lower retention piece. The mallet should do the trick for you.

Do I actually have to remove the handlebars to adjust them down a small amount or should I just be able to rotate them down without removing them from the risers??

no, no need to remove anything, just loosen the bolts and rotate the handlebars down.

Are you sure you are loosening the right bolts?
Ok seriously, when I adjusted mine they wouldn't budge until I had all four bolts loosened a good bit, then the bars moved freely.

I took the covers off and bolts completely out. I will try to get a photo to illustrate, but its sub zero snowstorm conditions right now and its too d**n cold.

As you have all 4 bolts out & the 2 covers off, cover your tank with plenty of padding. When you do get the bars free, they are heavy & unweildy & will probably fall on your tank (sod's law!!)

Now the Dealer tells me they used locktite, and I should heat it up with a torch. :o(

wtf? That is stupid! I don't know if I would use a torch as it could mess up the tank and riser finish. I would remove the tank then use the rubber mallet technique hitting the first bend of the handlebars as it comes out of the risers. Loctite is strong but it's not like epoxy strong. I should break free with a few good raps of a mallet.

If the dealer is so smart, bring it to him, and ask for a demonstration.

I'd take the mallet and give the dealer a few raps on the head with it.
