Default C50 handlebars

I'm verticaly challenged and considering putting C50 bars on my M to bring the grips closer. I've done a search and everything says they "should" work.

My question is, has anyone tried it and what was the out come?

I guess you'll have to replace all the cables too. Right?

I am considering putting some bars off of a Honda VTX 1800-C model. The bars have about the same rise and handgrip angle as the M50 stock ones, but reach back about 3" starting from the handlebar clamp area. Other than the 3" setback, the bend of the bars is real close to the stock M50 bars. The Honda bar even looks to have the proper knurl spacing for the M50 riser clamps (about 5"). I will probably cut the ends of the bars shorter, possibly 1" or so on each end to try to move the grips in some. Hopefully by narrowing the spread of the bars some, it will give me some cable length back to compensate for the extra 3" of setback. Looks like I will also have to drill a hole on each side of the bars to locate the alignment pegs of the M50 switch housings.

I will probably get a chance to put the Honda bars on Tuesday or Wendsday of next week. I will let everyone know about the results.

Again, according to what I've found thus far, the concensus is that the stock cabling should work.

Excellent results and cables are fine.

check this out M50Terry. i switched over to the 41" dragbars. it is MUCH easier to grind or file the little nipple off than it is to drill a hole in a hard round bar. if you have a drill press and clamp then it wouldn't be too bad, but if not coinsider what i said. btw, with the 41" dragbar i shortened the brake cable 1" kept stock length throttle cables and kept the stock clutch cable(for now). you are really given more cable than you need. so don't sweat it too much guys.....

Thanks for the feedback.
Does this apply to the C50 OEM bar as well?

The Honda VTX1800-C model handlebars are on and test driven with success. I narrowed the bars 1" on each end as compared to factory M50 bars to decrease arm spread. This is also necessary for the stock throttle cables to work. The riding posture on the bike is much better than with the stock bars. My elbows are slightly bent now instead of straight. No more leaning forward to grab the bars anymore and no more neck/shoulder muscle pain.

The Honda bars have the same OD, but a smaller ID, so it was a little challenging to get the factory bar end weights with the rubber expanders installed. I had to use a utility knife to cut down the OD on the rubber expanders in order to get them in the Honda bars. Other than drilling holes for the switch housing pegs, this is pretty much a bolt on operation for those that need the bars to come back to them some.
