Default WHEW.... check these fasteners guys

Hey just a little FYI...I owe you guys many.
Driving to get my first service today and I hear a bang..(thinking it might have been a manhole cover or something) I continue on..then I hear it again as I go over a bump in the road. Seems two of the three bolts that secure the rear tailight housing..(with attached signals arms) where gone. So either
they were loose upon assembly or loosened off during riding. So take a quick look at these bolts. Luckly I had a few tie straps in my bags
Also.. with my first service check up, I was a bit worried about the cost..being I have heard some crazy prices from guys on this site. I took it to a new dealership her in London Ont Canada (Ultimate Suzuki)..(not where I had bought it) and $112 bucks... taxes included and Canadian $$$. And EXCELLENT service. Sorry for the plug but ..they deserve one.
Anyways guys, take a minute to look at those bolts.

Dan

That’s been a past discussion and seems to be a problem.

Three bolts that hold up the tail light housing 9mm or 10mm bolt put a little locktite on the threads. In addition IV put some two sided 3m adhesive tape on the top of housing too keep it from rattling around.

Ya good tip Rockhead. The dealer did put some lock tight on the new bolts for me and I will be using your 3m tape suggestion. thanks

I just check mine each and every time. So far...nothing has come loose.

I'll keep on checking and keep my fingers crossed too.

I haven't had on loose bolt yet.....

I thought I did but it was on the side cover by the coolent. Though it connects to nothing and is appereantly there for looks.

Haven't any of you noticed while taking things off, how they had alot of extra threaded areas in the frame underneath? Almost like they changed the design and what attaches to where... interesting.

I had all that apart on mine early on, due to rear signal mods to make room for saddlebags. Have not found them to be loose since, maybe never torqued right originally?

there's another good point in this thread that I think a lot of people miss.

Zip ties. Buy a handfull, and throw 8 or 10 of them in your tool kit. Thre's almost nothing you can't secure enough to get home by using a couple. They're cheap, take very little space and weigh essentially nothing.

When I first got mine home I checked these mounting bolts and found them all finger tight. Have tightened them with lock tight. Must be a factory thing.
If it wasn't for this group mine would probably have fallen on the road.
Many thanks to this group, what a great bunch of guys and gals.

I ride a Harley, so naturally I use Lock-Tite by the quart. EVERTHING on a HD has to have Lock-Tite on it. Good tip on the zip ties, everyone should carry a few on their bikes. I also carry a small roll of electrical tape.
