Default Maintenance

I just got the factory service manual in for the m. It says to replace the oil filter at the 600 mile service. Then it says to replace the oil filter every 11,000 miles thereafter. Does anyone do this? Or do you cange it everytime? Also the final gear oil it says to inspect every 7500 mile but not when to replace again except for the first service. When should you replace it again?

At 600 change the final gear, its simple enough and again at 7500. And as far as it goes for the oil filter, change it every time with your oil it's only ten bucks. My manual says every other oil change but look at it this way, when you change your oil the filter it still has old nasty oil in it. When doing an oil change I would prefer that all the old oil comes out.

I totally agree with Rockhead. Changing out the filter is no different than when you change the oil in your car/truck. They go hand in hand. That is MO.

I always change the filter without question every time I change the oil. As for the gear oil ,change it when ever you want. It is cheap and the cleaner your bike insides are, the longer it is going to last. I am going to change mine at 7500 ,I changed it at the 600. I will change the gear oil at 10,000 mile intervals at the longest. I think once a year (during your spring tune up) anyway depends on how many miles you are riding. Personally I ride year round in Washington.
