Default Lonnie's Backrest

Went to install the backrest and hit a problem. The instructions say the bracket goes between the drivers and the passenger brackets. The problem i have is that the passenger bracket has these ? {gromits} that stick down on the bottom and seat into the rubber washers on the drivers bracket.Well they are to big to fit threw the holes in the backrest bracket which keeps the brackets from seating properly, which cause them to sit to high and the screws come up short and cant thread.Do i drill the holes in the backrest bracket bigger or grind the gromits down so the passenger bracket sits lower and the screws can thread properly or do i install the backrest bracket on top of both the other brackets ? Maybe i got the wrong Backrest and thats the reason it doesn't fit right?
