Default empty fuel alarm light.

I have disconnected the speedometer (i'll change it with a mechanical smaller one)...since i did it the fuel alarm light (on the gas tank) doesn't work anymore.
Do you think there's a connection with the speedo circuit or simply the lamp is gone?
thanx for any help!

Chances are you cut all power to the display. Do any of the other lights work inside the unit? Why would you have disconnected it anyway?

I'm with Rowdy. Test the light alone, if it works, then check the wiring thoroughly. Maybe what you thought was an unneeded cable is required...

All electrical diagrams are in your Service Manual for the M50.

I would think you disconnected power to the rest of the tank LED's when you disconected the speedo wire (electronic speed sensor) which probably has power which feeds other lights (leds). can you hook it back up temporarily to see if your light comes back on?

x Rowdy
i had to disconnect the speedo because i want to change it with a smaller one, i have dismounted the chromed part of the tank to paint it matt black. Maybe during this operation i have damaged the lamp or the wiring of the fuel lamp...

magic..just walked in my door..give me a bit and I'll pour through the manual.

On the bottom of the tank you'll notice those 3 "dots" that lead off to a wire coupler (brown). The middle controls your low fuel reserve. I'm pretty sure that the speedo is NOT connected with the reserve light so make sure you have those couplers connected just fine.

I'll hit this thread again later.

thanks Dragbar...but...

a guy from the European M50 forum told me that the speedo board is directly connected to the low fuel reserve lamp....i'll check the brown connector u r talkin about and let u know if something changes.

Damn i made a mess!!!!!

Sad to say that on the Italian version of the service manual there's no wiring/electric diagram.

We're talking Service manual, not Owner's manual.

Well the manual isn't much help other than to say, check the lead wire coupler or change the meter if it isn't working. Because your other lights work, i wouldn't think it would be the white coupler (near front of tank) that runs to the lights themselves. But check also never the less.

I wish I could show you a picture, but the brown connector is the one that leads to the wires of your fuel pump (directly next to the fuel coupler). If those wire are fine...connected properly..it's most likely the lamp itself.

I must ask though...are you positive that it isn't working? Did you run out of gas?

Anyway...are u sure that this problem is not related to the Speedometer board?

Trying to tell from afar can be a pain...but what..if any wires...did you cut to install a new speedo? any way you can take some pics?

By the look of the pics...a Y/B and B/Lg wire connect from speedo to fuel pump......and From speedo to Pilot lamp B/Y

I'm a bit nervous from saying from afar..but hope as I type it...something will be helpful to you.

if you had the tank off make sure you didn't pinch one of the wires on something.

i took the speedo electronic board out from the block and i'll try to re-connect all the cables and see what happens. i was thinking about placing the board under the chrome cover on the tank and place a mechanical speedo on the bar.

i'm quite confused....
