Default How to replace headlight bulb?

Hey guys,

I am trying to access the front headlight. I want to put in a new bulb, and also get to the accessory wiring to add some running lights.

I cant seem to get the main headlight apart. I see two 4mm hex bolts--one on each side (about 4 o clock and 8 o clock). I took the right side off (the right one while FACING the bike) and I cannot get the left one off! It spins, but does not appear to be threaded in anything....

Anyway, are these the right 2 bolts? Will this get me access to the bulb and the accessory wiring? Any idea why I am having troubles with the 2nd bolt?

Thanks!

Dean

That sort of thing is usually in your manual. Wondering what you ride, since you haven't filled out your profile.

I'm guessing that you're referring to the M50 on this, so if not, then forgive, please...

There are two bolts to remove - make sure you don't try and remove the ones that are sunken (recessed) into the bucket - those are for adjusting the angle of the light, not removing it. The ones you want are flush to the surface of the light bucket. If you are removing the correct ones (or trying to) and one is spinning, can you just pull it out? If that doesn't work, can you try a "pulling" presure while turning to unscrew it? I can't imagine that it got tightened beyond the threads, but...

Once the screws are out, pull the bottom of the light away from the bucket and then pull down (there's a lip at the top of the bucket that holds the top of the light ring in). Don't pull too far or you could ruin some wiring.

Hope this helps!

yes, I was referring to the M50. I will update my profile directly.

Those were the two bolts I was referring to yes. I finally did get the one out. I had to pull on the bolt as I turned it. I do not know why that happenned, but I got em out.

Thanks!

i just did mine last night. and it was easy. like stated above, all you have to do is get the two hex'ed nuts out, then slowly pull out the bottom part of the front ring on the light. once you get it out about a hlf inch look at the top and you'll notice that there is a plastic lip at the top you must work out. do this by pulling down. once that is off you need to pull the lamp out and remove the black rubber seal and the bulb itself (you'll see it). do yourself a huge favor and dont forget to put it back on when you get the new bulb in. there will be a copper wire that resembles a spring clamping the bulb into place. push down and out and it will release. take out old, in with the new, reclamp, put the black rubber housing back on (as mentioned before), and screw her back up...

the whole thing should take a whopping 20 min at the most.

hope this helps and if i confused you more... check out the link in the above reply... zuki dude did a great write up on this
