Hello from Fairbanks, Alaska. I have a '05 M50 with ~1300 miles, Roadhouse 2:1 exhaust, Kuryakyn H-Five air cleaner/Thunder adapter, Cobra Fi2000, and other stuff. Running the Cobra Tripot at the factory recommended settings (3.5/5/3.5) made the idle seem rich (stinky, rich idle roll, potato-potato-potato, etc.). A front plug (new) check after a 10 mile cruise at 55 followed by ignition cut and plug read showed a chocolate colored insulator with some light black soot = too rich for me at the factory setting. I moved the Tripot up to the gas cap so I could adjust it when running by adding extension wires. DON'T YOU DO THIS (Legal disclaimer and go sue yourself if anything happens). Moving pot 1 (Green light) from 0 to wide open made little difference either way at cruise, but it seemed to smooth a bit above 2 so that's where I left it. A similar run and cut plug check at that setting showed a tan insulator/electrode. Good enough. Full throttle roll on tests from 45-65 in high gear showed a slight hesitation when the second pot (Yellow light) was set below 4, and no major improvement above that so that's where I left it. Good enough. WFO testing showed a chocolate colored plug at 3.5 (Red light), so that's where I left it. Good enough. Gazoline is expensive. You may want to try to adjust your Cobra or similar unit at idle by smelling the exhaust for stink (=too rich). I was amazed how the stink almost went away when pot 1 was set at 2 versus 3.5. Don't worry, I'm not a huffer and did this after the road run. Do some plug checking after cruising and WFO to see roughly how the mixture's doing if no dyno's available. Hope this helps. Comments???
