Lightbulb Rear Brake Lever Effort

One of the things which surprised me about the M50 was the amount of effort needed to operate the rear brake lever. When I looked at the system I realized there were 3 return springs for the lever which contributed to the stiffness;

. The spring on the brake pads.
. The spring on the shaft at the rear wheel hub where it enters the hub.
. An extremely stiff spring on the brake rod where it passes below the engine side cover.

I removed that last spring and the lever effort needed to operate the brake dropped a whole lot. On releasing the brake, the lever was still being returned to the stop freely and quickly.

I’m going to ride with it like this and let you guys how it’s working out.
