Default Noob question! to de-baffle or not to de-baffle.

OK guys, don't yell at me please... I did try the search option but the results aren't explaining too much (specially when 1 says 1 thing and another post may say something different). 1st of all, can someone tell me what "to de-baffle" means? From the posts, it sounds like drilling some holes in the pipes to make the bike louder, right? Then someone said something about a 2nd ring, ok there i got lost... 2nd ring? and then someone said something about using a baseball bat and ... well, i'm still learning the lingo so please excuse my ignorance and I'm a little slow hehe. So what is this de-baffling all about? and if you make some holes in the pipes, why is there concern on backfire? and what is this re-mapping all about?? (sorry if I'm asking too much but as you can see, I'm trying to understand it and I think I'm just getting more confused) Thanks in advance!

Some guys do the complete de-baffle and some drill holes. You may start off with 4 holes per pipe and increase the amount as per sound preference . I am not talking from experience but what I have read on this forum.

Hi,
I debaffled my M50 and love it. It is loud! I also watched the video before doing it. You can quit there but, I thought the sound was to tinny. It gets better if you get a 12" extension and a 2" hole saw and cut out the plate the baffle was attached to. That one is called the Mickey plate because it looks like the face of the famous mouse. There is another plate about 3" behind that one also. Cut it out and you will have straight pipes w/ no restrictors. The service guy at my dealer said that debaffling will make the engine run a little leaner, but it will not hurt it and you won't need to mess with the FI unless you change the intake as well. I have also read dozens of posts on various forums by many riders that have debaffled with no problems at all. In fact, I have not seen any posts about problems after debaffling. I did mine @ about 2,000 miles and now have over 5,000 miles w/no problem. Uncork dem pipes!!!

Yeah last night i drilled 4 holes and I'm still not satisfied with the noise level.. going 65 I forgot I was riding a bike (not literally, just couldnt hear my pipes) .... sooooo, I'll either do the whole thing, or simply get aftermarket pipes and intake.... damn, where is that tax refund when you need it!!!

You will definately be able to hear your pipes if you do the full de-baffle. I can easily hear mine at 80+ mph with a full face helmet on. I think I will take out the mickey this weekend.
