Default Saddlemen Seats for m50?

I got a new Dennis Kirk catalog today and it shows Saddlemen seats in two or three different styles. Has anyone tried them yet. If so was it more comfortable than the sock seat. For some reason there is a bolt or something right where I sit. Its a pain in the #$@, litteraly. Thanks

I don't think anybody knows they have a seat for an M50, so I don't think you'll find anybody that has tried them. Completely new to Us. Can you show us somehow by scanning it or giving a part number. Almost everyone here has complained about the stock seat since day one.

Okay here it is. Dennis Kirk Metric Bikes catalog 2006. Page 402 Saddlemen Profiler (one peice seat) Part number 45-3842 for 256.99, or 45-3843 for 284.99 with a leather cover. The explorer with backrest 45-3846 for 560.99, or without backrest 45-3845 for 370.99. The tattoo profiler, 45-3844 for 313.99. The profiler and tattoo look like low seats on a chopper or something, pretty nice, and the explorer looks like the corbin dual tour. There is also one with studs and conches if your really cool. Thanks.

I just emailed their sales to see what I could get out of them...based off their site, their application list for metric cruisers, specifically Suzuki models, stops at 2001 models. Their lineup of seat models looks pretty good though: http://www.saddlemen.com/cruiserindex.html

I think the Profiler and Rogue models would sell pretty well, at least to members of THIS forum!

Let's see what they reply with regarding plans to construct anything for the M50...

If you go to Dennis Kirk web site and put in those part numbers it does show the seat for an M50

Actually, it is odd, because they don't seem to have ANY applications past 2002 on either of their "application list" pages (for the two different seat types)...so the company site is severely lacking in up to date info!

Seems like a bad way to get your product noticed.

Though Dennis Kirk does show the seats as "Expected Soon"...

I went to the Dennis Kirk website, they are listed as "expected soon" which worries me since I don't know what their definition of "soon" might be. Also, reading the description, they are made with Saddleman Gel. I was not too thrilled with the gel seat concept, I have read other accounts of sitting on a gel seat that was in the sun for a few minutes in the summer time. It sounds like as much fun as putting your nuts in a microwave (another pass-time that doesn't tempt me). I'll have to give the seat options some thought, I need a better seat for two-up riding with my wife. I guess the good thing is that the M50 is starting to have some options to think about. I wonder if Mustang is going to jump on the bandwagon?

Default Saddlemen's response

Well, Saddlemen responded to my email asking if they were constructing any of the options they listed on their site (Rogue, Profiler, Explorer even) thusly:

"Hello, we will have the explorer and profiler for your bike next month, thanks cookie"

That's the verbatim response I got. Not exactly an in-depth dissertation about their products but it seems like a pretty definitive answer. So, next month is a whole week away- hopefully Dennis Kirk's "Expected Soon" is actually SOON. Now if only Saddleman takes a booth at Americade in Lake George so I can pop a seat onto the bike to see/feel it for myself (without online-shopping hassles) .

I ordered a Profiler from Cruisercustomizing.com about a month ago. They mistakingly had it listed to fit the M50 and it didn't. Saddlemen told me (3 weeks ago) they are in production right now for that seat. Although it didn't fit the M50 model, the Profiler is an awesome seat and is going to be a great look for this bike. I'll get it for sure. Just a little tidbit: cruisercustomizing.com has some great customer service. The e-mailed me a UPS pre-paid return lable for the seat they mistakingly sold and gave a full refund. I'll buy from them anyday.

Welcome to the site Drew...you've found the home of M50 owners all over.

On that profiler seat. Would you say the rear was about the same width as the OEM rear? My other half finds the rear just fine so if the seats are about the same I might be good to go on buying something like that.

Good question Dragbar! I keep lookin' at it thinking the rounded end would ride up the passengers crack after a while if it's not somewhat flat/wider like that of the OEM one....Don't get me wrong, it's a nice seat but if it's not comfortable for them, especially on longer trips....is it really work it the extra bucks?

And the explorer....not bad, it looks like it be real comfortable for the driver AND passenger, BUT will it go against the sporty look of the M. hhhmm, something there to keep in mind too. And sadly there's a complaint on CC's site that has me wondering if we'd have the same problem with it on the M also-(hopefully not with ours having a different fender and all).....

http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/re...roduct_ID=9049

Just things to keep in mind......

If Dennis Kirk does get these seats in, I will be going up there to check them out. They are only 30 miles north from me. The problem is, I don't know how much I will really be able to check them out. Dennis Kirk is a warehouse type facility, and the only way I can actually hold one of there products in my hands, is to buy it first. What I might have to do is buy all the seats that fit, take them out into the parking lot, and install and take pictures of them one at a time, than return all that I don't want. Keep in mind that I live in Minnesota, so I'll have to wait for a warm day before I can do that.

I Emailed Saddleman about when the explorer seat will be available. They responded today saying it would be 3 or 4 months before it is available.

Thanks for the update Rhodester....whether a little later in the season or not, with this and Corbin, at least we'll have some more options out there for us.

I'm leaning toward the profiler too. I too would like to know the width of the rear pad, if it's anywhere near the original she will be just fine with it, if it's not...........oh well, deal with that when the time comes.
