Default Stock tires unsafe?

I was driving by a guy the other day who was on a black M50. We started BSing at the light about our bikes, etc. He said to get Metzler tires before I crash with my stockers...I was like uh? He said the factory tires caused him to crash, then the light turned and we went our different ways. Anyone ever heard anything about the stock tires being too slick, unsafe, etc? Sounds like hogwash and rider error to me, but.....

Does any really think that Suzuki or any other MC manufacturer would put UNsafe tires on their product , with all the litigation today ?

Dont get me wrong they are not the best tires that could be used. When it's time to replace my OEM's, I will put on a set of Meztlers, but Iam in no rush to do so.

In the Sept. issue of 'Road Bike' magazine they do mention that. I qoute "The tires are fine but not impressively sticky, and, as Steve Lita (associate editor) points out, appear to be some sort of budget brand. I'd like to see how upgrading to Dunlop or Metzeler would affect the bikes handling."

You cant go wrong with either one, Ive had Metzlers cant speak for Donlops, but you will notice a differance especialy on a M50 on my C50 not as much because it wont lean over like an M will. Some may diagree, but the M was meant to be tossed around more then the C.

I rode on nearly bald tires and I didn't crash, much.

If the tires are as crappy as everyone says the rear will be worn out by 6,000 miles so why not just ride with them for now and get the Metzeler's when the time comes?

I do have to say the Metzelers completely changed how my bike rides. It went from an OK bike that took some skill and concentration to corner properly with to a machine that feels like its riding on rails and is amazingly confident in the corners.

Much is like; 1 or several times?

I don't think the tires are the direct cause, riding beyond the limits of the tires, or beyond your riding abilities is more likely.

Pinhy. Don't forget, a bigger tire is going to weigh more, and that means less get up and go. It might not sound like much, but this is rotational weight, and that is very important. Ask any bicycle rider.

Aww I'm just funnin' with ya. I only went down once and I can't blame that on the tires, they still had tread at the time. Later on rode my stock rear tire until it was pretty much bald all the way around in the center. No wires were showing and it was summer so I wasn't riding around in the rain

I didn't think Washington had much sun this season. I thought you had more rain than us this year.
I hope there was no road rash in this crash.
Bald tires are an accident waiting to happen. A bike has less room for error.
Ride safe and enjoy.
ps; last time I visited your state I had a crash. It was not bald tires, but lack of use of grey matter between the ears.(the head's not bald either)

You ever go farther south down into Oregon blackie? Much better state down there and no sells tax. Just kidding, washington and oregon look a lot alike but I think that oregon has better scenery going down the coastal highway.

I haven't looked real close at them, but I did notice that CC.com put alot of tires in there accessories/new list.....can't as yet buy from them though, but gives an idea as to what's out there in the first few pages.

Thumbs up

In the 60's, a friends parents moved to Coos Bay, I use to drive my friend down right after work on Friday and head back Sunday.
I can remember going out in the dunes, they stuck me in the back, facing the rear, that first downhill dune allmost did me in.
Would be a nice area to ride in.

Its sunny and California-like here in the summer, that's how the Californians get tricked into moving here, that and they think a $450,000 house is a good deal. Of course come October they spend all their time at Starbucks trying to stay awake.

No road rash in my little oopsie, I wear full gear at all times so I was spared.

I've gotten the rear tire to spin and slide while accelerating through a turn haha...not alot but enough to catch my attention. Traction could be better of course but still they're not too bad for stock tires.

I grew up in Myrtle Point, which is about 20 minutes from Coos Bay. I spent most of my free time in Coos Bay/North Bend though when I was a teen.

LOL I don't think I'd taste too good anyways. Honestly I'm not even a fan of roast duck or duck rice at the chinese restaurants, duck tastes a bit dry to me.

Anyhoo, it was coming off a stop that i did that with no cars around and i had some room in case things went wrong. I wear full gear all the time anyways...full face, racing gloves, jacket, pants, boots and ce armor EVERYWHERE hahahaha! So I'm honestly not too afraid to take a spill with no cars around as long as I don't risk sliding into anything like curbs or trees or whatnot. Sorta feel like an armored knight wearing all the gear. The looks from other cruiser riders (most hd guys) are priceless. They prolly are saying "What's with that weirdo dressed in all that...think he bought the wrong kind of bike."
