| Hello there, Something very unusual is happening to my jacket. I bought it at Nine West on sale. A couple of months later, it is turning green! It doesn't look damaged or anything, but some parts of it (sleeves, back) look green. Any ideas of why? or how to fix it? Thanks.

| That certainly is strange.....I'm at a loss. However, you are down in El Salvador...... Jungle rot maybe? All that humidity down by the equator? Clean it up good and put some conditioner on it? Without seeing pics, I don't think anyone can help.

| Yeah, I'd only guess mold or mildew.

| Thank you for your responses. Let's see...there are no jungles in El Savador....El Salvador is above and far from the equator. Well, I'll send it to the cleaners and see, if it is mold, I guess it will come off. I'm enclosing pics.

| Actually, that just looks like dye fade to me. Black leather dye can wear or fade to a greenish-blue color, and cleaning it will probably make it worse. Is it a name-brand jacket or a Taiwan special?

I guess publications like the NY Times have got it wrong then. Out of the Jungle -- In El Salvador, Rebels With A New Cause. - New York Times I guess the whole internet is wrong about jungles in El Salvador too. Sorry. Just trying to help. Sorry for being so obtuse by making a generalized statement about El Salvador being close to the equator. Because...hmmn...I look at a map, and gee, it is relatively close. Closer than anyone of us is. Maybe not a few miles away, but pretty darned close in the larger scale of things. So again, I apologize for being so obtuse as to suggest something so ridiculous. Which also implies, that being near the equator (relatively) the country would have a tropical climate (again...a generalization culled from a random sampling of internet inquiries...such as the CIA World Factbook). That said, I apologize for using a general term such as "jungle rot"....which is again, a generalized term (but affects natural and man made fibers (in addition to human flesh) and materials in tropical climates), but my implied meaning was correctly picked up by RowdyRed to mean maybe a mold or mildew problem with the leather? Upon showing us your pics, I agree with the others, that it may be a dye problem. Again, I apologize for just trying to be helpful, and using generalizations. My mistake.

| No problem Intimid8er. I know the news sometimes calls a place what it is not. I appreciate your comments and apologize if you felt I was rude or something, not my intention at all. I'll post a few pics of El Salvador in another thread if anyone is interested. As for my jacket, I'll just Thanks to everyone for your comments.

| time to get the black shoe polish out and polish the leather coat. like the kind of polish you use on leather biker boots.

| I don't even think I'd polish it....I'd leave it for character.

| Wouldn't that rub off on everything you brush against? I'm with Tim. The worn look is fine.

| No, done right it doesn't. You rub it in; a little heat helps. Then when cool, buff off any excess. Good for small cracks and scrapes but I don't think I'd try it for large areas.

| leather should be able to soak in a thin layer of black polish. although there's good argument in the "character" look. Then after a couple of years you can put it up on E-bay and make a bundle.
