Default Shoei RF1000 Helmet

Anybody on here got a Shoei RF1000 helmet? What do you like and not like about it? I've got an old RF700 that has definitely earned its retirement. It has been a fine helmet in that it's comfortable, absolutely watertight, the visor pivot and attachment mechanisms are smooth and durable. Thank God I've never had to give it the ultimate test! The RF1000 is the direct decendent of the RF700 (I think the same visor fits both). If the RF1000 is an improvement over the RF700 I want it.

I have a black Shoei RF1000 and couldn't be happier. The RF1000 is light, well ventilated, really comfortable, and best of all the wind noise is much better than my last full face. Can't really answer the "watertight" question since i haven't used it in the rain yet. Besides the price I can't really find any cons.

Here's a detailed online review:

I love my RF1000. I just got it a couple of weeks ago, so it's not nearly broken in. When that happens, you will have a tough time prying it from my cold, dead hands. Wait - that sounded bad... Arg!

Anyway, it is a great helmet. The only thing is - it's a little snug right now. But, as I mentioned, the padding hasn't even begun to be broken in yet.

Other than pushing kind of hard on my cheeks, mine works great. FYI, I did crash test one. The helmet was a mess, but I never missed a day of work.

I have a HUGE noggin. I have a HJC CL-12??? Anyways it is a XXXL. That is the only comfortable helmet I have been able to find since my head shape is obviously differnet than most people or something. I tried a NOLAN at a show and they said that their helmet shapes would not work for me.

I might have to try that one out then. $400.00 is a little steep but if it works then it is worth it. My HJC is one hot S.O.B. due to poor ventilation.

Whatever works for you is what you need. Online, the Shoei (solid white) is about $332. Yeah, that's alot of money but I've been a purchasing professional for over 30 years and if there's one thing I've learned it's that in the long run you get what you pay for. Two area's I will not compromise is my helmet and my tires.

If you don't get the fancy designs, then it's not that much, as Tanker2 said.

My head is somewhat odd shaped as well. My other helmet is an HJC-CL14 (size XL). That thing whistled so bad, it wasn't funny. Also, there was a lot of air coming up the sides past my ears making plenty of noise.

With the Shoei, I was able to get away with a large. I think that the size was part of the problem with the HJC. It still whistled - from where the visor closed and didn't seal well.

Well the XXL RF1000 doesn't fit me. EERrrrrrrr....they said they would order me a XXXL,, might check into it. Looked like it had alot of different features. Vents on top that are adjustable, locking front visor in the down position so it cannot fly open, it had several "GOOD" detent positions for cracking the visor, chin vents, forehead vents, and it had a little spoiler deal on the back edge of it????

I've had my RF1000 for 6 months now and it is the best helmet I've owned, so far. That includes all my previous Arai. Bell and HJC helmets. The Shoei is BLESSEDLY quiet, the venting is first rate and you can go 600 miles with no hotspots or discomfort. The one thing I added that really makes it work flawlessly is a Foggy Mask for those cool, damp mornings when fogging is a problem. Also, you can't beat Shoei's system for changing shields. If you can't do the whole operation in 20 seconds or less, you should never be allowed to handle anything sharper than a twinkie.

I ordered the RF1000 from Helmet City and got it in 2 days. Perfect fit. I guess I've got a Shoei shaped head. As all those who have them have said, ventilation and noise damping is outstanding. You can actually feel the cool air circulating around your head. The aerodynamics show the results of actual research in that buffeting is really minimized. As Old n Slow mentions, the visor attachment is so easy and robust. It's the same as the old RF700. That's one thing that kept me from considering the KBC..I asked the salesman to demonstrate it and it not only looked flimsy, it broke. I was amazed at how much lighter the RF1000 is vs the RF700. Technology I suppose. Yes, you pay a little more for a Shoei but the value is there. Overall I'm very satisfied.

I have RF1000 as well and love it. Hit a HUGE, HEAVY rain storm (actually a hail storm too) last weekend and never got one drop of water on my head. Just about the only thing that wasn't wet. Great helmet!

I"ve got one. The light weight is the biggest plus. The shield stays locked in position. It's vented pretty well. It fits me great. Parts are easy to come by. The graphic on it is beautifully done (it's a Nerve, I think).

On the negative side, it fogs pretty bad below 50 degrees. Or in the morning when it's humid.

Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and I'd get another one.

Yea I noticed I get alot of fogging too. But I am experimenting with different de-fogging chemicals.

Is the shoei X-eleven the highest shoei helmet avaible? and if so is it better than the RF-1000?
