| Sport bikes don't really make for good touring bikes. I had a CBR and long trips were a bear. A lot of sport bikes also don't give you much room for luggage either. I would think risers would help and a tail/tank bag...maybe even a more confortable seat (a lot of sport bike seats are horribly hard).

| I ride a Bandit (sport/standard) I've put 600+ on it in a day. The only thing I'd change would be the seat. Monkey butt sets in after about 6 hours. One of my buddies modded (shut up 'Nut!

| Forensic Bug Splatter Analyst. ![]() | When touring I have a large set of soft tail bags(sportbike specific)that clear the can. I use a large expandable tank bag. That's usually enough, for hoteling it. Sometimes the tank bag and a Camelback are enough for short good weather trips. I've found that less is more fun. That way you keep that sportbike edge and can still tour. I can go 500 to 600 miles a day in comfort. For whatever reason, the long reach of the Gixxer 1k is comfortable on my screwed up back. The Gixxer stock seat has plenty of padding and I can go 15 plus hours on it. When I'm old(er) and in need of a real tour bike,I'll get a BUSA!

Around here, I typically ride out 100 miles to reach some interesting twisties. I spend the day riding there and then back home. Usually anywhere from 300-350miles in the day. I don't consider that sport touring. If your bike ergos fit you, it makes all the difference. | I just outfitted the Yamaha FZ1 with a SW-Motech luggage rack and a Givi 360 topcase. Up front is a Tourmaster magnetic tankbag. Toured from La. to Northern Georgia for a week. I can add the detachable side racks for Givi sidecases later if I want, but it doesn't seem I'm going to need it. The luggage rack has a removable plate on which the top case fits. I've had many soft bags.....the hard case is the only sure way to go. I find it actually looks pretty cool on the bike too. I like the convertible aspect of a sport tourer...you can put luggage on a piece at a time....or leave it sporty without any. |

| I think you folks have a point about touring on a sports bike. I just bought a C90T, which is 695 pounds empty. With my saddle bags full and my fat rear on it, it gets to be quite a horse to park and make short turns. I used to have a 550 that I drove from Kansas City to Minneapolis, and it was fine. It was a 4-cylinder and very smooth. I cruised between 75 & 80 mph all the time and never had a problem. Like some of you, I feel it's the seat that counts, not the size of the bike. If it fits and feels good, you can ride all day.

| measure the rides by the tank full since the DL hold 5+ and the ST hold 7+, a good ride on either is a tank out and a tank back. Unless it is a little further. A good Saturday ride, say 450-500 miles, sort of like to leave the rocket city, go to North Carolina, ride the dragon, eat lunch and ride home. The longer trips tend to be like to WeSTOC in Taos, NM. If it works out it should be 1850 out and 1850 back with a couple of 500 mile day rides while out there..
