Default Major Trip on Wee Strom

I returned Sunday from a week long trip to the Sturgis area from N.W. Ark. 2761 miles in a week. The bike never missed a beat and was always eager to go every day. I had installed Dan Vesel hiway pegs, Genmar up & back risers, had a Saddleman's Gel seat pad, and used a Kuryakyn Grand Tour bag on the back seat for luggage and backrest. I have the 3 pc Suzuki luggage (which I guess is no longer available). I was one of 5 bikes in our group...2 HD's and 2 Hondas (1800 & 1300). I used less than half the gas of any other bike in the group and had the best handling. Going NW across Neb. we had very strong crosswinds that blew me around some but it was slapping everybody pretty hard. I sure had more fun on Needles Highway than the big cruisers! Bike was very comfortable the whole trip and riding didn't wear me out...Crossing Kansas on the way home in 107 degree temps. did, however. Of course (and to my pleasure) I was one of very few "different" bikes both in SD and on the road and it earned the genuine respect of everyone on this trip.

I get the "Moped Man" around here. I put the highway pegs on mine and rode it the first time yesterday with them,,,, excellent!!!!! You sound like you have alot of the same accessories I have except the luggage.

I am looking forward to when I can take mine on a trip like that.

Another great testament about how great this bike is!!!!

The V Strom's really are great bikes. I rode mine straight through from Tennessee back to Minnesota (18 hours) when I went down there in June for the Tail of the Dragon ride. I took my Road King when I went to Sturgis this year, 600 miles one way. The King is a nice bike, but The Strom is always easier on by old body for a long days ride.
I saw 3 Stroms in Sturgis this year, one of them was red, it might have been you.
One of the cool thing about having a Strom around a bunch of Harley's, is that most of the HD guys think a bike has to cost over $15,000 to be any good. When they see what the Strom can do, and than find out what they cost, well let's just say it's usually a "Kodak" moment.

Our trip was actually the week before the rally and we stayed in Custer. We were actually in Sturgis mid-day Wednesday 8/2. Going thru Spearfish Canyon that same day we saw a van with "Hog Pics" and a guy taking pictures. Got home and found this (check link). That's me going left to right shortly before going on to Stugis.

I went a week early too, and I was in Spearfish Canyon on the 2nd, but I don't remember if that was where I saw the red Strom. I thought it was a couple of days after that on the Nemo road. Did you happen to see where the guy crashed the Goldwing just south of Nemo?

I was never on Nemo Road. After the canyon we hit I-90 in Spearfish, went to Sturgis for a couple of hours then on out to the Badlands and got back to Custer about dark. Kind of overdid it that day! Thursday we all went our separate ways and met for lunch in Deadwood. That afternoon we went to Crazy Horse Mem. then back for the light show Thursday night (spectacular!) but I was on 385 both directions. We took off for home early Fri. morning. The only accident I saw was a guy was forced to drop his bike trying to make a left turn off the main drag in Sturgis when a couple of rubbernecking biker wannabe's ran one of those 4-way stop signs. Pi$$ed? I guess!!

vampyregirl You might want to get in the habit of checking the dates on the posts, this one is from Sturgis 06, I'm already back from Sturgis 07. Not to many on this board go to Sturgis. And if you fill out your profile right away, you won't have to get YELLED at by one of the mods.
