| May 2007 Member of the month ![]() | On my DL650 I adjusted the chain last night but I got a few questions. 1. Does it matter whether it is on it's side stand or the center stand really? I adjusted it on it's center stand and then I read that it needs to be on the side stand. 2. The adjustment spec says to measure from the center of the links and from that point pulled down and pushed up. Should be within 20-30 mm. How much pressure do you have to use. I pulled down as hard as I could and up as hard as I could and the chain is right at 30mm. The reason I am asking this is because now the chain is making a whirring noise and when you put the bike on the center stand it loks like the lower run of the chain is jumping up and down. It appears too tight to me. But when I measured it pulling down and pushing up as hard as I could to get the spec it measures out in spec??? Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

| I would "guess" that on the side stand the weight is on the wheel so it's at the natural riding position vs. on the center stand where the swing arm is extended down?

| Yes, it does, especially if you've modified the suspension. When you load the swingarm it tightens up significantly. If I was to adjust my chain on the centerstand, the chain would be banjo tight whenever I hit a dip in the road. Do it exactly as the manual states, and err on the side of loose.
