| Well, if all goes well tomorrow (Friday) will be riding my new '06 DL650 V-Strom. I'm so excited I'm almost sick! Won't be no sleeping tonight! I'll miss my S83 I'm sure but I'm positive I'm going to like this bike more. I know there two different beasts but the Wee-Strom will suit my riding needs and style much better. Positive it will be the perfect (as perfect as can be) bike for me. Will have it broke in before the weekend is over! Last edited by S83; 06-30-2006 at 02:02 AM. |

| Seat Tester | Congrats from one ex-cruiser guy to another. I thought I'd miss my Vulcan too but I haven't found anything the Vulcan could do that this one wont do better unless classic looks are important to you...to me it is not. Take some time to get well acquainted and have a blast!! You're gonna love it!!

| Well, I was able to sell my S83. Picked up my new Red V-Strom on Friday, $6200.00 OTD. Put about 295 miles on it Friday. Got the brakes seated in, tires worn in, engine seated in. Couldn't ride Saturday or Sunday due to family commitments. Took off Monday morning on a shake down run and just got back early thismorning, another 760 miles. Rode from Northern Indiana up into Northern Lower Michigan turning around at Old Mission Light House North of Traverse City. Great weather accept for the last hour on the way home. Torrential downpours, the V-Strom handled all in stride! The V-Stroms are one sweet ride! I have to get it in for the break in service (I know I'm over) before I'll ride it anymore and it's killing me! The ride is smooth, handling is great, engine is smooth and has plenty of power. Engine has more bottom end than I thought it would. Can't wait to be able to fully tap the upper end. I got 53mpg my first two tanks. Got 55mpg my last two tanks. Love the less frequent fuel stops with that large fuel tank. My wife didn't like riding on the back of my S83 (Uncomfortable seat). After about an hour of riding she was done. She rode 3 hours on the back of the V-Strom and said she was fine and could ride more! She doesn't do that well on the back of my brothers C90. She even noted it was a lot smoother ride. The only regret I have.....I didn't get this bike the first time around! I don't even miss my S83. Thought I would, but I don't. Have some good memories of rides on it but don't miss it. So far the V-Strom is perfect for me. Haven't found anything yet I don't like about it. I'm one happy camper!! |

| May 2007 Member of the month ![]() | Good deal!!!! Got my redesigned seat back Monday. The new design for the Sargent Cycle seat sits better than it did before. I personally went to the factory Monday and talked to them. I am digging the new seat. If you have any questions on fork braces, windshield mounts, risers, or the Sargent Cycle seat let me know. I love my Strom and you will have a blast on it.

| Louis - S83 has another meaning to me as well as the bike I had at the time. Don't know what I'd change to. STP1971 - Does the fork brace make a lot of difference? Been looking at seats. My wife wants a backrest. Been looking at the Corbin, like the backrest setup. I'm happy with the factory seat so far, so is she but she wants a backrest. Went to Sargent Cycle website. Like the looks of them better I think. And if the seats are more comfortable....well, double win. Can the Stealth Passenger Backrest be used with the factory seat? Trapper - I got the Red one! I've left the windshield alone so far. It is on the lowest setting as it came out of the factory. I'm 6'06", 37" inseam. I don't get the buffeting/turbulance I've read about that some get. I did on my S83 though with the Boulevard Windshield and I had it set as high as it would go. Thanks for all the good info from you guys on the V-Strom that helped me go back and get the bike I almost bought the first time. This is a great site! |

The first version had a different seat foam design and the newer design is supposed to be better. Plus there was a rubbing issue with it on the first seat. If this seat rubs through the material then I will be taking it back for a modification. If you can hold out on the seat then wait a little while to see if the different companies offer something that will work for you. You have to remember that the seat height is already 33" and a Corbin will add another 1/2" to 1" to the height. The Sargent keeps it about the same. Not sure about any of the others. If you are interested in the Sargent Backrest then call them. The backrest will work with the stock seat I believe because it attaches to the rear rack and not the seat. But they offer a price discount if you order it with the Sargent Seat. Go check out the V-Strom forum and there are numerous threads about different accessories. http://11109.rapidforum.com There is even some different companies that offer another passenger backrests that are cheaper than the Sargent design. Another option is to check out the rear hardcase luggage cases that mount to the luggage rack. Alot of them have passenger backrests built in. As far as the front brace..... YES. Night and Day difference. It handles alot better and I feel it even rides a little smoother as well.

| COOL! Thanks for the info! Checking it all out. Seat height the same or higher won't bother me with my long inseam. I can hold off on the seat but would like to find a backrest for the wife. Like the ones I can pop on and off for only when she is on it. Wasn't aware of the other backrests out there. Will search for them and check them out.

| S83 for what ever it's worth the forkbrace is worthwhile investment, especially if you change the fork springs and thicken the oil!
