I know this thread is a bit outdated, but there aren't many threads on these bikes. I am looking around thinking about getting something of the likes. Tim I feel your pain. I love my M, I do however like the riding posture, for short in town trips, but playing around and long trips it doesn't cut it. I'd love buell Ulysses, or a Duc Multistrada, but I don't know. Haven't ever seen either one. I have been looking at the SV and likewise the Duc Monster (sorta, love but again never seen one up close) the Strom and now the new '07 Bandit 1250s has caught my eye. Those that ride these bikes... what do you think. Lets hear the opinions.

Tim did you ever get the Strom? I haven't seen you post anything about it, so I don't think you have, but maybe I just missed it. Thanks in advance.

Drew...Funny...I just returned from checking my bid on an '05 DL650, and I see your post. How timely!

If I win this bid, it'll certainly accelerate some things. I'd been bidding on some large bore cruisers. If I'd won one of them, I'd sell the M and then concentrate on getting a new DL. However, this gem popped up, with only 2500 miles on 'er.

The Ulysses....a sighting of one of those is like seeing a Dodo bird.

The Duc's and the Goose....I decided the dealerships are too far away if something goes awry with them.

So we'll see what happens here.

Not because of the riding position, the attitude, or any of that stuff. Just the simple raw sound a V-Twin makes. Music to my ears, and pure audible trash to others. I love the farm implement torque a V-Twin makes. However, I despise the weight of a cruiser, the slow steering, the feet forward weight on your spine riding position, and many other reasons. Love 'em, and hate 'em at the same time.

However, after more than a year with the M, (it's comfort shortcomings made themselves painfully aware to me within the first fifteen miles) I've learned to figure out exactly what it is that I want in a bike. I had a long layoff from bikes, and I was used to dirtbikes and standards. When I was shopping last year, I sat on a lot of bikes but with a severe lack of saddle time, I couldn't tell what would be comfortable for me on the road. Through all this time, I've kept my eye on the Strom for it's advertised upright dirt-bike like riding position.

Saturday, I had to stop by the local dealership and get a filter and some oil for Mrs. Intimid8er's S40. I sat on a bunch of different bikes since they had all the bikes that I've had my eye on.

Strom's-1000 and 650
FZ6
Ninja 650
FZ1
SV's-1000 and 650

And a nod to Rowdy Red....I did sit on a used Bandit 1200. Dude I can see what you rave about. However, I'd need taller risers, and quite frankly, I don't think I need to be around that much power with a short wheelbase like that.

The SV's.....obviously had me leaning over far too forward than I like.

The FZ6 and the Ninja....great, however, a slight bit of lean that after about 20 or so miles, would become an annoyance. Same with the Bandit.

Strom's-perfect. I actually preferred the seat on the 650 over the 1000.
For me it was the perfect "sit up and beg" position. I had forgotten since last year what the saddle position was like on these things. At a 34" inseam, I liked the fact that if I was sitting at a light flatfooting it, that the bike was right there under my butt, I didn't have to hunch, it just supported me. My arms hung naturally from my shoulders, and the wrists just rested right on the grips. I couldn't find anyone to hold the bike up for me, but I put one flip flop clad foot up on the peg, and tried to emulate a riding position. Everything just seemed natural.

I went home and e-mailed the dealership through their request a quote program. I put the M in for a trade. Of course, I get Jerry Jerkoff e-mailing me back telling me to call him to discuss it. Uhhhh.....no! That is what the e-mail thing is for dude..(Nothing like throwing cold water on a hot buyer!)

Bottom line....I think I see a Strom coming home to roost in my garage reeeeal soon........ When, I don't know. I've cooled off a bit since Saturday. Hell, the M is almost paid off. I feel like keeping it, and adding a Strom.....

To be continued......

I did !

3 weeks till Daytona what will you show up on ?

I have Sean's cell phone # and told him I am going over for the day and if we can hook up, I will slide by and say Hi, I will be on the Goose.

That would be a good breakin run for the V!

I'm still in. Good to go.

She's loaded up and behind schedule, deadlines are looming, and she has her trip the following week. She'll lose four days of production to jackassery. Plus we have the Valdosta trip next week. So it has stressed her out to the max. Believe me when I say that!

I'll ride over at a leisurely pace on Thursday morning or so. I can't get Danr to answer my ???'s about when he's riding over.

Got raised in the last half hour.

Counter bid.

Sniped in the closing seconds. Response wasn't fast enough. Lost auction.

tought break on the ebay... I think I have decided to remain with the M for now. I love this bike, and still have plenty of learning to do. With the bike and house payment, I can't afford two bike, so I will keep this one unless something just really screams at me. Then when I can afford two bikes, I will. We will see how it goes, but eventually, I will get something of the likes.

Default Strommed

I've got a new 07 FZ1 and am perfectly happy with it. Have a SW=-Motech luggage rack from germany....blends well. And a Givi topcase. Will get the Give side cases later.
But.......I was coming thru Newnan, Georgia last week on the way back to Louisiana after a trip in the Northern Ga. mountains ( around lake Sidney Lanier) and I came upon a tiny girl on a 650 V-Strom....silver, with a Givi 3 bag set up. Man....it looked SWEET!
I'd like to have that thing as a second bike. Looks like great fun.
But......I'll never give up the FZ1.....too much visceral stimulation to pass up!
I'm going to have to test drive one of those Stroms. Several people say they like the 650 over the 1000.
