Default Kangamangus Highway

I know that this is probably a short trip for you guys but has anyone ridden the kangamangus? It is a 30 mile highway,I think, in New Hampshire. I'm going up there in August for vaca, staying about 20 miles south of it. I want to ride it. It will be a total of about 100 miles in one day.

For you guys that don't know of the road, it is a highway carved into the mountains with turn offs for scenic peeking. It is absolutly beutiful in the fall for the foliage. Lots of twisties and up half the way and down the other half. Looking forward to the ride.

Jim

OH yeah ! it was a must do ride when I was going to the Laconia rally.

If the weather is right you can also go up to the Mt. Washington summit. But it could be snowing on the top of it even in August.

enjoy, I miss it since moving to Florida.

Default Yup

I live in Nova Scotia, Canada
Rode down to bike week in Laconia, and did that hwy while there.
I was on an 1100 Virago - wasnt very twisty - but watch out for the one TIGHT turn there is - its a decresing radius right hander if your heading north and it will BITE you big time. I crossed the center line and into uncomming traffic. The 1100 had no more lean angle left in it.
This turn is so bad that there was a group of bikers parked up on a look off watching bikes NOT make this turn......

And if you do the run - do Mt Washington too. Its chilly up there in June !!
But well worth the trip up.

If anyone is going to make the trip to NH - do it during BIKE WEEK - that is one WILD PLACE.

I was stuck in a trafic jam - MILES LONG - all bikes - too cool to see. I never seen that many bikes in one small area.

The locals were out with lawn chairs at the end of the driveways - some had 4x8 sheets of ply wood setup - as a sign -
AND THE SIGN SAID ------------ (SHOW ME YOUR T**S) ------ and the girls did just that ......... Best traffic jam I was ever part off !!!

Great ride... scenery... watch out for the pot holes however... not the best maintained roads around that part of the country...
Mt Washington is a must... I got lucky and went up on one of the nicest day they ever had! $7 to get in... comes to 1$ a mile... worth it...
Be well... Ara

I have "caged" extensively in the northern NH area, I can't wait to get my M50 up there. Anyway, I highly recommend doing the entire Kanc (NH 112) starting (or finishing, whatever) at the west end where it intersects with NH 302 in Bath. There are some great river views on the 20+ mile ride into Lincoln, plus great mountain scenery through Kinsman Notch. Most people ride the Kanc from Lincoln to Conway, and miss the Bath to Lincoln stretch. Check out the Woodstock Station restaurant and Brewery in North Woodstock (near Lincoln). Good food and great beer. Have fun!

I'd be willing to ride the kanamangaroo or whatever it's called. If it's an M-J thing

I'll play guide and host to anyone from MJ.com who wants to come up.

Last week I spent an entire day just cruising around the mountains and Mount Washington Valley. The only part I don't like is Rte. 16. That's kinda boring ( to me, I live here ).

The Kangamangus Highway is sorta miss named. It's not a highway, it's more like a State or Federal park road.

The next fun motorcycle day going on up here will be 8/9. That's open practice at Loudon ( NHIS ) Race Track. One of our fellow members, Tab B., will be on the track. It only costs $10.00 to get into the pits and watch the action and see all the bikes and racers.

If Anyone is interested, I could meet them at the rest area after the border with Mass., and guide up to the track.

Count me in. The Town & Country Motor Inn in nearby Gorham is highly recommended. We just stayed there on our way through to Maine and back.

Mt Washington was definitely a highlight of my trip to Nova Scotia, I wish I took more time to ride more of the mountain roads in NH & VT. I found 1 great road - route 17 in VT up & down mt ellen (I think)

However, next I am in the area I will definitely avoid Gorham motor inn, it was the only motel/hotel open when we got into town late at night

On the day I went past Mt Washington, I stopped at the gate to the "auto road', that's where you pay for the drive to the top ($11.00). They have a weather station at the top, and it was reporting curent wearter conditions. at the top, it was 51*, with a 51 MPH wing blowing, on top of that, the last two miles had a report of 10 ft visability, and blowing sleet. It was 95* at the gate. Needles to say, I didn't go up.

I did go around to the other side, and rode up to where the cog rail road starts, that was prety cool.

I also saw a rather large Black Bear on the side of the road, tearing a log apart, and a mile further down the road, I saw a man, & woman on bicycles heading down towards it. They thanked me & turned around when I stoped & told them about the bear.

Here's one for you folks. These are real signs posted everywhere. When I was young, my uncle was driving us up to the ski lodge in his Porche. We came around a corner and there was a moose in the road. Bang !! Totaled Porche. The moose got up and walked away.
