I haven't been up there in years. During Bike Week, there are a few days when they close the road to the top for motorcycles only. That would be cool.

Ok, I'll be the weenie here. The correct spelling is Kancamagus.
Pronounced more accurately Kan-ca-ma-gus. Doesn't bounce off the tongue now, does it. There is no "ang" sound in there. I'm not trying to be a spelling weenie, it is just one of those words, of many, that we mess with,, well,, I guess, because we do. I noticed the spelling when I was at Loon Mtn. a few winters ago. The have the Kancamagus ski lift. I was looking at it and wondering to my Lisa, where the heck is the Kang, and the mang??
Must be one of those things like, Worcester = Wooster, LOL.
Sorry about the hijack.
Palanon can slap me for the rest of you folks.

But do you also think a milk shake is a "frappe", a sub sandwich is a "grinder", and a soda is "tonic"?

Y'all sure do talk funny up there!

Back to the original programming, we cut across the "Kan-ca-ma-gus (two narrow lanes) Highway" last February after the blizzard, going from North Conway to Manchester, and it was simply beautiful. Would love to ride it on the bike in the summer. Might be a good M-J.com gathering location, good eats and shopping in North Conway, great roads to explore everywhere. I'd strongly consider a New England ride.

Well, I rode the Kanc this Saturday. Took off from CT on Friday afternoon and nailed I-91 all the way north into NH. After cleaning what seemed like thousands of insects off my wind shield, I hit the Kanc starting from the Lincoln, NH end. Tourist traffic was light, perhaps owing to the overcast skies, cool temperatures (low 60's to mid 50's), and intermittent drizzle. I was decked out in full waterproof textile gear and my full-face helmet, so I just cruised! Traffic was unbearable heading into Conway at the eastern terminus of the Kanc, so I rode NH-16 west into Ossipee and ate at a great BBQ joint. Sped up NH-25 through Meredith, Plymouth, Rumney, and on to NH-10 to where I was spending the night. I got antsy and took off for a spin down NH-302 to Sugar Hill and Franconia Notch. Rode route 10 from NH straight through to CT today. All said, a 650 mile weekend - first big trip on the M50. The cool weather was remniscent of autumn, and I can't wait to ride the Kanc in October when the foliage is in full splendor.

Hmmm,,,might just be the next gathering place. And the Canucks wouldn't have ANY REASON AT ALL to not attend this time. Right in their backyard.

I was just passing through when I saw my old thread. I went on that ride, twice in fact. The road is less twistie then I thought, except for the hairpin turn of about 180 degrees. Also, my calculation was a little off. I stayed about 50 miles south in a little town called Laconia. Anyone ever heard of it? I decided that I didn't want to ride the slab any more so I found rte 3 that dumps you into Licoln. Nice road that was a bit more twistie then the kacamagus and very nice scenery. It runs parrallel with the scenic railroad.

The first time I did the ride, I took 16 to 25 back to Meredith and onto Laconia. the second time, just made a u-turn and went over the road one more time.
If this is where the gathering is to take place, I may just have to make a point to go. Just a little heads up though. My wife is on vacation up there now and went over the kacamagus on tuesday and they are doing a bunch of work on the road. Hopefully they will be done as not to interfere with the leaf peepers.
Also, if you are into tattoo's, I know a great artist up there. He is by appointment only. His name is Tim and you can find him at Kelly's Tattoo:: Lincoln, NH : 603.745.9470.
