Default First 30 miles on the Sargent!!!!!

Well after waiting weeks for the Sargent to come in,, it finally arrived Friday afternoon. Could not ride it until this morning and here is my first thoughts of the seat.

1. Installation was pretty much the same as the stock,, maybe a little more pressure required to lock in place but it did snap down and latch.

2. Fit and finish.
A. The nose of it is alot less sturdy than the nose of the stock seat. By saying that I am able to bend the nose of the aftermarket seat,,possibly due to the carbon fiber baseplate design.
B. The seat has a slight gap right above the side covers which is usually filled by the stock seat but it is nothing really unsightly and unless you were looking probably wouldn't notice it. It does allow room to be able to squeeze your fingers under the seat though.
C. The material is a little slick compared to the stock seat. It will aloow you to slide around some with a nylon rainsuit on. This was complained about on the V-Strom forum so I tried it out myself. It is not really that bad,, but if you are in an emergency stop you might possibly slide forward towards the tank,,but I tried a couple very quick stops and I slid a little but not bad enough for me to worry about it.
D. The looks are good and it really ties in with the look of the bike.

3. Ride quality.
A. The stock seat usually within the first ten miles starts to numb the bum due to the pressure points you sit on. With the Sargent I noticed none of that within the first 30 miles of riding on it. I feel that the weight distribution is alot better with this seat.
B. The stock seat is more cushy to me where the Sargent is alot more firm. I did notice that the firmness is a little uncomfortable when you are used to a more cushy seat,, but with the application of my buttbuffer pad i am sure this will be aleviated. The firmness of this seat is just as firm as the Mustang seat i have on my "LC". So the buttbuffer will definitely help out.
C. The Sargent seat sits alot more level and you can sit a little further back in the saddle. This will probably mean that a set of those risers will be in my future for the bike which will make the ride postion even more egronimic for me.
D. The rear seating area is wider than the stock so more butt room. The standing flat foot position is about the same to me as the stock seat. Maybe a little better.
E. The seat's sittin postion seems to feel light your feet are not tucked up as far back as they are with the Stock seat.

My initial thoughts of this seat are pretty good. I personally would like a little more give from the seat in terms of cushy feel,, but my buttbuffer pad will help even this out. The fit is pretty good and I wish it didn't have that little gap but I suspect the extra widthe in the seat is the reason so I can live with it. I think I will like it and I will know more as the weeks go by.

is it worth the $380.00???? I think so. At least I think so in the first thirty miles.

SEAN, I think I told you before that my Sargent seat was custom made on a stock Suzuki seat pan, so the fit is exactly the same as a stock seat, but like yours, it's wider, and firmer. Mine sits 1/2 inch lower than a stock 650 seat, and makes it easier to flat foot at stop lights.
Mine is also dished a little more than a stock seat, so you feel more like you are setting in the bike rather than on it. I find that with the dishing, I can create all new pressure points, just by sliding up, or back a half inch or so.
I had mine out for 450 miles last week, and when I got home, there was a message from some friends 30 miles away that were having a bar-b-q. I rode the bike to the party, that's how good it felt. I have a Sheep skin pad that I put over the seat for longer (more than a hour) rides.
The stock 650 seat that I have was only good for about a half hour. I hope your seat works out as good as mine.
For the record, the stock DL1000 seats are 10 times better than the 650 seats. I wish I had known that before I traded mine for the 650 seat. I traded so I could flat foot the bike better.
FYI my MP Cycle Design windshield should be here by Monday, so I'll have it on the Dragon ride.
