Default Get my Wee tomorrow!!!!!! 4/1/06

It is drivin me nuts!!!!! I have been chompin at the bits all week to get my Wee-Strom after buying it Monday evening. Talking about the longest week in history!!!!!

The dealer is putting the tank guard on for me, the DL1000 handguards, and maybe the center stand. If he doesn't install the center stand then I will put it on myself. Looking forward to scuffing some tires tomorrow morning. Then hopefully Sunday I can throw some miles on the bike.

The plan is to get the intial 600 miles onit within a week or two (weather permitting) so I can start really seeing what this bike is capable of.

Congrats on the new purchase Sean. I've stumbled on this topic in a few posts but missed the whole story. Did you end up selling/ trading the LC?
What colour did you settle on? Post some pics sooner than later. Have a blast!

I am keeping the "LC". I was tired of waiting on it in the shop so I went and bought me another bike,,just kidding. But seriously this is how I legitimized it with "J" and to myself. My friends have always accused me of being the king of legitimizing stuff.

-The economy is getting tighter and tighter and the impending cost of gasoline at $3.00 a gallon, the distance I drive to work, and the no-end in sight to gas increases,,,the savings alone will pay for the bike.

-It is a manageable bike,,not as heavy as the "LC" for everyday commuting. Will be better on me and my back in the long run.

-I will be more inclined to ride it on days where it might rain since there is not alot of time spent having to clean all the chrome up afterwards,,this is more time I can spend with her and "P".

-Once she gets proficient with riding the '81 GS650G then she could always ride the Wee and I could ride the LC when we want to go riding together.

-The Wee is big enough but not too big for her to handle.

-and the main reason I legitimized it was becuase it makes me happy and I wanted it.

The only reason I legitimized it with her was the fact that she is paying the rent and the food expense,,so I don't want to just squander my money and have it look like I am mooching off of her.

She is cool about it and excited for me to get it. I am SOOOO STOKED that I finally found a woman who likes bikes!!!! It sure does make buying bling stuff alot easier,,LOL!!!!

Thanks yall!!!! I got the 2005 Blue.

Congrats. stp...You're going to love it. I did the same thing..tiptoe around for 500 mile breakin period, got the 500 mile service out of the way quickly (though not quick enough!) and start really riding it. It says don't exceed 7K rpms until 1000 miles but found out last weekend I've got no business getting this thing to 7K anyway. 5th gear at 95 at 7K and thought "this is nuts!!", and coasted back to a sane speed. Keep us posted

Riding the "M" is cool. and fun, but riding the Strom makes you feel like a kid again. Remember your first bicycle, every-time i get on the Strom, that feeling comes back.

Hey,, got up this morning and it was pouring rain. Went to get it anyways,,after all,, it's just a little water. Rode it home but had to get on the interstate for about thirty miles,,uuugghhh. The manual says not to exceed the 5000 rpm for the first 500 miles,,ooops. Hit right at 5000 the whole thirty miles,, even popped over it for a few miles here and there but not exceeeding 5500 rpm. So hopefully no harm done.

Got the buffetting though. Came home tonight and moved it up more,,got worse. Then I lowered it back down and put a washer behind the shield on the two lower bolts. The buffeting didn't seem to start until around 70 mph at that point.

Theory is if I can get longer bolts and add a thicker washer to the bottom then maybe it will clean it up even more. But I am going to ride it like it is tomorrow and the next few weeks and see.

I think what it is doing is allowing the wind to fail behind me a little more. As far as protection from the elements,, that little shield doesn't do much anywyas so if it decreases the protection I have so what. I'd rather have clean wind than the Jimmy Buffet Blues.

Seats, and Windshields are the two areas that create the most controversy for V Strom owners. Right now I have 3 seats for my Strom. First I traded my super comfy stock DL1000 seat for a lower 650 seat, That allowed me to flat-foot stop signs, but the seat is a lot less comfortable. The guy I traded with also had a Corbin seat that I tried, It's the same height as the 650 seat, but it's wider in the front, witch put me back up on my tip-toes.
Next I found a custom seat on E-Bay, it is a stock seat pan that was refinished at the Russell Day Long Seat Co. Before I even received the Day Long seat, I found another deal on a custom Sargent seat that a local guy was selling, I had to move on it right away, or it was going to get sold out from under me. Now I have to decide witch seat I like best, and witch two I want to sell. The stock 650 seat is going for sure, but the Day Long, and the Sargent seats seem to be pretty much a toss-up as to witch one is more comfortable. Guess I could have worse problems. I think I like the looks of the Sargent a little better, so that's probably the one I will keep.
The wind buffeting/windshield thing is probably going to be harder to figure out.

Well putting the washer under the front lower holes worked better. Still had some buffeting not not as bad as before. I rode most of the day at 55 to 70 mph and it was not that bad. The shield was in the lowest postion and the washer up underneath it in the two lower screws.

Used the Buttbuffer pad today on it and it helped,, but after about 150 miles started getting a little numb in the bum.
