Default What color Wee-Strom?

I am thinking about trading my M50 in for a 650 V-Strom (as long as they don't rape me too bad). Problem is, I don't particularly care for either color. I wish they had a black or blue. I am leaning towards the red. I was trying to find a used one, but they are bringing top dollar on ebay and cycle trader.
Which color do you prefer? Red or Silver/Blue (or what ever that color is)?

That's what I'm thinking Louis. I can always get some custom paint down the road. If they give me a halfway decent deal this weekend, I'm going for it. If not, I'm going to buy some pipes and intake, get the M50 remapped and enjoy it.

There's not a lot of red anyway, shouldn't be too expensive to have it repainted.

Hey Lexxter.

Check this one out. It went off at I think $5600 last time, and he lowered his reserve this time around. Nice bike.

It is a very nice bike. I placed a bid last time, I think he probably wants too much for it. I think $5600 is about the right price. Then you have to spend more money to go get it though. I contacted him and he keeps it outside under a cover. Even with the accessories, I would rather get a new one for around a grand more. Thanks though, I will keep an eye on it. I saw where one like it sold for around 6100 the other day. I think it had more miles on it. They seem to hold their value really well.

Night Wolf - Thanks for the suggestion. I really need to see both in person and make a decision. The dealer said he has both, but none on the floor. I might have to try some other dealers to see them.

I'm pretty excited. He said they could give me more for the M50 than I thought they would. I know I could do better selling it myself, but I don't want to have to deal with all those people who just want to test ride it.

I appreciate it! I like the blue so much better than the red. I will check into that. What a way to get to know a new bike. A nice 500 mile ride back. Of course i would have to get there first. I don't think they would want those extra 500 miles on my bike. Would probably have to trailer it.

I went ahead and placed a bid on the red one. I doubt if he lowered his reserve below $5600 though.

The sad thing is that if any of the dealers around my area would have had a V-Strom in stock when I bought back in October - I would have gotten a V-Strom instead of the M50. Would have saved some money.

Oh well. I have a price in mind that I will pay to trade. Anything above that and I am putting a Highway Hawk 2 into 1 exhaust and some kind of intake on the M and keeping it for a while. Maybe until they come out with some new colors for the Strom.

intimid8ter -

I filled out the form for that blue Strom. Will see what they say.

This is a nice one too. Wonder what it is gonna bring? I would take the 1000 if I could get a great deal. It is too far away for me though.

Lexxter....I sat on it on Saturday. The seat was well broken in. Maybe a little soft for a long ride....after riding the M I didn't know there was such a thing. All in all, I didn't notice any flaws or anything. Try offering $4800 plus tax or so. See what happens.

Don't listen to Night Wolf, he's just one of those woos a$$ed Canadian riders. Be a man and get the He-Strom, you'll love the extra grunt. He is right about the clutch, make sure it has been changed.

Seriously though, there are some parts of the country where the Stroms don't sell verry well. If you really want black, you might be able to find a new, left over 05 DL 1000. $500.00 to ship from anywhere in the country, it would cost you more than that to paint it. Also the 05's, and 06's have the frames painted black, I think it looks better than the silver of previous years.

You won't regret getting either Strom, I enjoy riding my M 50, but I LOVE riding my Strom.

I will probably go with the 650. Being able to pull the front wheel of the ground is tempting though. It has been a few years since my last wheelie.

Any bike, including the M 50's can wheelie, some just do it easier than others. The He-Strom does it without using the clutch.

The 650 is a little better than the 1000 in the tight stuff, and it get's better gas mileage, and it's cheaper to insure, and it sits a bit lower in case you have a short inseam. I put a 650 seat on my 1000, now I just can get my feet flat on the ground.

You will appreciate the extra hight of the Stroms when you ride in traffic. You get a much better view of what's going on ahead of you.

I can flat foot the 650 too, but the 1000 seat is a bit taller, I have a 30 inch inseam, so I put a 650 seat on my 1000 so I can flat foot it. You don't have to frame it, I've never said anything bad about the Wee-Stroms. Just the Nancy boys that ride them.

wow so im not the only one...

I finally went to the dealer after sitting on my thoughts for a few months. Sat on a 650 v strom for a good amount of time...only downside is im somewhat up on my toes but then again, the bike was empty (zero oils/coolant/fuel) and it was brand new so things haven't settled suspension wise. Other than that, the ergonomics felt great, everything just felt right...

My m50 currently for sale locally...i'll give it some time but if i don't get any bites, then ill bit the bullet and trade it in. I'll be honest, even in person I think the vstrom is far from being "sexy", but nonetheless it's better in every other way which is what I want. For the way I ride, the M50 isn't cutting it much anymore and with plans of a few road trips in the latter part of spring and into summer, I need a proper long distance hauler that can do it all.

Lex, if you're not happy now don't bother with remapping, intake, exhaust. I have all that stuff done and in the end the bike is faster but still isn't what the v-strom is and I still find myself with the burning desire to upgrade. I think I've been reading nightwolf's webpage too much...

oh yeah, i'd take red...what's with that funky baby blue color??? It looked really goofy in person painted like that. I wish they still made a yellow...that is a cool color for those bikes.

I wasn't able to accept the deal they offered me. The stealer wanted over $2000 in a trade. I was willing to pay $1500. I did get too see the M109R. Very sharp! Looks better in person.

I found a 2004 Black Wee-Strom with 6000 miles. The Stealer wants $4900 for it. I am going to offer the $4300 and see what happens. I think I would be happy with it. It seems like it is in good shape. They will not let me ride it.

The Stealers in my area are such @@@holes. Don't want to come off retail at all and add other fees.

I might just take a trip to one of the dealers that are selling the new Wee-Strom for $5800 -$5900. Then just sell my M50 myself.

Quack - I wasn't able to see the red or silver. I think the yellow looked good also.

Lex you actually found a used vstrom? woah I haven't found a single one near me...it's frustrating but I guess at testament to the bike as the owners don't want to give them up. I haven't formally brought my m50 in for a trade in estimate but over the phone with me listing the mods, the guy said in the neighborhood of 4500, maybe a bit more but not going to be over 5. The dealer I talk to (where I got my m) is actually very honest (no commission for anyone there) and strongly urged me to sell private party to get a better deal and that's what I'm doing. So I'd be out about 2k to upgrade, which is doable for me, but still I'd like to get more for my m50...pretty tough.

Your right about that baby blue, it's lame. Night Wolf thinks the chicks will dig it.

If you want a yellow one, look for a 2003 DL 1000.

As far as it not being sexy, it lind of grows on you.

If you want the suspension to settle down a bit further, just turn the adjuster a few turns counter clockwise. It's located just behind your right knee when you are setting on the bike. You can also put a longer link dog bone on to lower the bike.

It is hard to give up the M50, especially since I have not been able to ride a Strom yet. I know I will like it though.

I really hate the attitude of the dealers in my area. I think I would rather buy from one who gives me a break from retail, even if it means I have to pay almost retail (with the shipping, or going to get it).

Check out cycle trader. There is dealer in Santa Ana, CA offering them for $6600 out the door. Also a used 2003 DL1000 - Yellow - for $5700 in Camarillo, CA.

The Stealer was giving me $5000 for mine, but still came up with me paying $2200. Not sure how he got that figure When the Strom retails for $6700 and I would only be paying taxes on $1700 (which is $102). Just makes me want to not even try to negotiate with him.

rickster, i wish they made the 650 in yellow...1000 is too much bike for me, and i want an 04 and up. Haha i guess the looks will grow on me but they don't really bother me as of the moment either...sorta indifferent to the appearance

Lex, yeah that's another dealer i talked to (they're a sister dealer to the one i got my M50 from...all the same owner), 6600 otd. It is hard to part with the M, I sat in my garage earlier just staring...it's such a good looking bike and I get looks and compliments on what seems like every corner. It does do one thing better than the strom every will, and that's rolling up the beach on a summer's day attractive oohs and ahhs from those in its vicinity (haha poseur value as im sure night wolf would say) I'm hoping for a very nice tax refund, maybe I'll be crazy and get a strom in addition to my M...time will tell...
