Default Any DR-Z400SM owners out there?

I am seriously considering getting one of these. Anybody on here own one?

I almost did, that is what I went to the suzuki dealer to look at and then I laid my eyes on the blue M50 in the corner and never turned back towards the dirt bike section.

I love the M50 as well. When I was looking, I wasn't sure what type of bike I wanted (and could afford). I narrowed it down to M50, V-Strom, 650SV, KLR650, and the DR400. I would love to have one of each .
After getting the M50, I am finding that I still want a bike to get in the woods with. The DR-400 seems to be the best street legal solution out there.

I really like the looks of the SM, but I would probably be better off getting the S model. Just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience to help me make my decision.

The V-Strom can do everything the SM can do, and it will do it with a lot more comfort, and attract a lot less attention from JOHN LAW. Don't get me wrong, I think the SM looks like a lot of fun, but I know how I ride when I get on one of my dirt bikes, and I just know that I would be getting a lot of tickets. I think a lot of people that buy these things are only going to keep them for a short time and than sell them. If you have to have one, just wate a bit, and there will be a bunch of them for sale cheep. Let the other guy take the hit on the new bike.

You have a good point. But, it seems like the market for used bikes is not what it used to be. Around here, a late model with low miles seems to bring close to retail. I think the gas situation has driven up the used bike prices. I'm all for a good deal, but if I am only saving a grand or so on a used bike with say 4000 to 10000 miles on it - I would rather spend the grand and get a new one. At least you have the year warranty and the satisfaction of knowing that it was never abused.

The dealers around me can't seem to get any V-Stroms. The only one I can find is a used 2004 at a Honda dealer. It is banged up pretty good and they still want $5500 for it. I think it had about 16000 miles on it.

While I was typing this, my neighbor brought a 92 KLX 650 by. He buys and sells bikes. He just picked this one up and wants $2500 for it. He told me to take it for a spin and try it out. Before I got on it, the carb started pouring gas out of it onto the ground. That's why I am afraid of buying used bikes. Unless you know the person who owned it, you never know how much you may have to spend on repairs. In the case of a late model bike, you could be spending more than retail by the time it is over.

I may take your advice and wait until spring and see what is happening.

Both my boyfriend and his brother both own one. His brother's is an '05, and my BF's is an '06.

They LOVE them...they both are getting into supermoto racing next year...

They are awesome bikes for the city/town riding...not a good highway or long trip bike though. The seat is like sitting on a 2x4 (literally) and the bike is so light that you get blown all over the place on the highway.

So, it's a great fun bike if you're doing the right kind of riding with it!
