we used to do the same thing with our ski goggles when we'd go nightskiing back when I was young. this corner of the world loves the fog (burlington REALLY isnt far quebec). Dawn works best at repelling fog, palmolive seems to be gentler though

Spent $3 on a fogging little bottle that doesn’t do anything.

Fog really isn't a problem here. The 'fogging' dust does a number on your eyeballs though!!!

Strike the toothpaste. Most (if not all) tooth paste has some abrasive properties and that isn’t good for the shield.

I've heard shaving cream works well, too.
I have used it on the bathroom mirror and it worked great there.
I will have to try the dishsoap.

A very small amount of clear dishwashing liquid will do the trick. It will cut the water tension, and can be washed off and reapplied as necessary.

Dish soap? In my diving class, we just spit inside the mask...

As for my helmet, I've got an anti-fog visor...

No, I wiped it pretty good, and the visor it clean and undistorted.

Sure. As I said, I haven't tested that I'm just reporting that I heard that. Comment noted.
