Default list of dumb questions

ok let me start off by saying this is my first time trying to do any work to a bike I recently purchased a 92 katana 1100 i got it fairly cheap so of coarse its going to have its problems the first problem ive had with it is it will start and run if i keep the throttle pulled back but as soon as i let go it dies i know this means i have to adjust the idle screw which i have located my problem is i dont know which way to turn it whether to tighten or loosen it to raise the idle speed so that would be my first question .........tighten or loosen? also I have all the plastics and the gas tank off so how do i adjust it to get the idle where i want it i cant access the carb with the gas lines attached any ideas? Oh and about half maybe a little more of the hardware screws and such were missing which made it nice and easy to disassemble but does anyone know where i can get a set of bolts and what not?
