| Hey Kyri, Have you changed out the battery? If not then my guess is the battery is dead. Even though you fully charged it, five years of just sitting there probably killed it. You can take the battery in to a shop and have them test it to see if it can even hold a charge, but my guess is that it won't. Changing it out is relatively cheap and easy. Good luck! |

| Yeah, I don't know where you are (fill out your profile!), but dead batteries are destroyed by freezing. Welcome to M-J.

So, what that means is: Once you get it to turn over, the carbs will need cleaning. With a little luck that can be done with cleaner in the gas. Once you get it running, it needs an oil change and probably new tires. As for the immediate problem, as others mentioned, you need to have the battery tested and check the connections to it. Yes, there are safetys. Kill switch, side stand, clutch and neutral. To start, the kill switch to "run" , transmission in neutral and clutch pulled in. Try putting the side stand UP too. That may allow it to turn over if not in neutral......but be careful with that; the clutch plates may be "stuck" and it may lurch forward if the starter runs and it's not in neutral. I do NOT believe that any of the safetys would prevent the lights from coming ON. You may need a meter to do some power tracing. P.S. Ask your sis-inlaw for the owner's manual. It might be helpful.
