Probably has some varnish in the carbs from sitting. You'll want to get a manual and take them apart, cleaning everything with solvent. You could also try something like Seafoam in the fuel. Chances are good it could also use a carb synchronization and a valve adjustment.

Welcome, and please fill out your profile.

I just don't like trying to converse with abstract, disassociated usernames. A few facts fleshes out a persona, at least to some extent.

Did you take it for a long, hot ride? That stuff isn't an instant cure. No one is mechanically inclined until they become so. If you'd like to take a crack at cleaning up the carbs, we can help. Otherwise, it'll be a few hours at shop rate.

My 2000 Suzuki had a very poor idle. I cleaned the carbs out a couple times, but ended up taking it to the shop to have them completely tear them apart and synch them. Ran like a whole new bike after that. Total cost was 750$, but that's on the steep side of what it should cost. I would at least try to do it yourself, which isn't too terribly hard as long as you have a manual, and go from there. Good luck and welcome to the forums!

On that note i've been looking for a manual for my bike but come up short, any one got one that could send me some info or scan some pics or something? Well i rode my bike today and there was a difference in the idle, but also discovered from previous threads that i think its idling off of the main jet and not on the idle jet,it idles at about 3000rpms but when kicked into gear jumps forward a little and if not on the throttle dies out,if at astop and reved above 3000rpms will stay there until kicked into gear...thoughts....

If you kick it into gear and it want to pull forward it sounds like you need to adjust your clutch so that it completely disengages when you pull the lever. There should be an adjustment where the cable comes into the lever. Backing out the screw will tighten the cable a bit, it takes some practice to find the spot where the clutch completely disengages when the lever is pulled and completely engages when the lever is let out. That would also explain it dying out as soon as you kick it in to gear. If the clutch is still engaged enough to pull the bike forward if you're on your brakes when you put it into gear then the engine wants to turn the wheels and you're preventing that and it dies, it won't if you're on the throttle because there's enough force on the engine side of the clutch so that there's not enough friction to kill the engine. I doubt it's idling on the main jet, that really only comes into play when you're about 60% full throttle. I would think there should be an idle adjustment screw near the carbs to lower the idle a bit, but I wouldn't know where it is on that bike. Once you get a manual it will be a piece of cake. Here's a link to the manual Manual

and here's a link to a really good side that has some beginning mechanics advice. Most of the bikes are older but the basic principles are the same.
Repair Course

Good luck

Whenever you're adjusting Idle you usually have to let it run for a bit at the new adjustment before you can get a good idea of where it sitting. Start with small increments and ride around a parking lot a bit, and continue from there.

Well I adjusted the clutch cable and it made a small difference it still jumps forward a little but have managed to keep it going apart from the low to none idle, the strange thing is at times it idles great but a little high at 3000,and other times nothing.....I will try the idle adjust and take your advice Im just unsure which is suppose to be the actual idle is it the one at 3000rpm or the little to none..?

Idle is usually around 1100-1300, it's not going to sound as good as smooth as it does at 3k but that's normal. Glad it helped a little, even my bike wants to crawl forward a little right as I put it into gear, but nothing I can't stop with my feet.

Well I adjusted the idle, bit by bit and test drove it each time but still no luck,it had no effect at all which was strange,I guess at this point the recommendation will be a good carb clean or rebuild? Running out of sunshine here in ohio I guess it will be a winter job, unless i can come up with the cash for someone to do it for me quick,Wanted to take the time to thank you all for the info and related links, very helpful any more advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well sorry that didn't work, I can think of a few things but nothing that would help much until you get the manual and start tearing into the carbs. Like the adjustment screw is no longer attached. Good luck and keep us posted!
