Default cb 900 question

saw a cb 900 for sale the other day, and was a bit of a loss when describing why it had the "hi - lo" shifter.

other than to say that it was a concept honda tried, I didn't have a thorough answer.

do you?

My best answer was that the "lo" range was to make the bike more of a 1/4 mile kind of machine whereas,

the "hi" range was to make it more of a cruiser.
