Default Just installed a Micro-tach

Wow, this thing is cool and only took about 30 minutes to install. The LED readout is really bright, check out the web link below. They have photo's and a video of the tach. I mounted mine on the brake res. like in the photos.

Anyone else have one of these installed?

Cool. Saw a guy at a rally that had one, but never found out who made them.

I know what you mean, I can usually tell what gear I'm in from the sound, but I ride w/ guys w/ the new 6 speed box and sometimes I find myself trying to go up another gear on the highway. I'm running a lot more rpm than they are. Anything below 50 and I just leave it in 4th and let the torque work.

It sure would have been nice for HD to put the 6 spd in all their models.

What model HD do you have?

They came out w/ the 6 spd. in the Dyna in '06, and the rest got it in '07. They also punched the motor out to a 96. I have an '03 Softail Std. carb model, w/ a bunch of custom junk added to it.

From the product site:
The microTach is a 1.37" x 0.77" small form factor device specifically designed for Harley Davidson and V-Twin motorcycles. There is a microTach+ tachometer available for all V-Twin Motorcycles! Some models may required optional Tach-Adapter. Using only 3 wires (Ignition, Ground, and Signal) and easily placed in convenient or inconspicuous locations this tachometer provides vital engine status.

Question 1- is the tach for V-twins any different than say for inline twins or inline fours?

Question 2- did you have to use the optional Tach-Adapter?

Question 3 - has using it given you any surprise findings? You've already developed your riding and shifting style on your bike. Did it surprise you to find that you were RPMing lower or higher than you thought? Has it started to change your riding as to when you shift or has that stayed the same?

Hey Diamond Jim, I am not sure about #1 but if you go to their link I posted above you can ask them directly.

No on #2, I didnt need it for the sportster.

Not sure yet on #3, I need to get some miles behind me but I think it will change my riding RPM's and shift points.

And here is a photo of my 12 VDC outlet I wired directly to the aux. plug at the battery. I mainly use it to plug my charger into but I can use it for all other 12 VDC devices.
