Default Protecting your baby from the elements...

Hey guys,

I just got my first Harley a few days back, I'm living on the coast of Japan after after not having ridden a bike for 6 years I decided to get back on. I went through the Japanese testing system which is another story altogether but the main thing I'm interested in is how people protect their bikes from rust and rain.

Unfortunately since I live in an apartment they have no internal garage parking available. I purchased a bike cover with my bike thinking a good strong tarp should be enough to project the bike from the rain but low and behold I came home from work today to find the bike completely soaked underneath the tarp. This is dually bad since I live within 50 meters of the Pacific Ocean and I have to worry about salt corrosion from the wind.

So my question is, what do you guys recommend to protect a Harley when a garage is not available? What waxes/greases do you recommend and where should they be applied?

Thanks,
Jonathan
