See? Doesn't make any fckin sense since it will not happen. So to not do something or to comment based upon that hypotethical situation is ridiculous.

Also - Please quote where you saw ER say they were too heavy - I am not seeing that.

What I gather from Manuel is that.. from here on out - it's 100% ok to post ridiculous answers in other posts as long as you are stating they are hypothetical situations.

I've been following this "Saga" for the last couple of days.. I'm going to have to say I agree with rickety on this one. A 600 is a good size for a beginner. I know lots of my sons friends have them and have had no problem. I rode one or two of them last summer, seating position wasn't for me but they're nothing too extreme power wise, fun if you don't mind the position.

I will say of all the bickering it seems you're arguing two different points... (in reference to Easy Rider, Dave, and Rickety) Easy and Dave seem to think the bikes are too powerful, and Rickety seems to be arguing it's not, but makes it clear that his is an opinion where as Easy and Dave are saying theirs are facts.. and Manuel.. I don't even know what you're trying to say.. you seem to be making things up and arguing about made up stuff, you just don't make sense to me.

My advice - a gsx500f is NOT too powerful, and stop bickering ladies(not really ladies, just trying to show you guys you're arguing like a bunch of old hens).

But a CBR1000 at full throttle will raise the wheel, dump you off the back and smack into a Honda Prelude parked across the parking lot.

When a buddy I was in the Marines about bought a new CBR600 some of us went to see him take delivery of the new bike and go for a ride. While we were looking at his bike and as the salesman was going over it with him, another salesman was going over a new CBR1000 with a guy. They were a few feet behind me and I heard the salesman ask the guy several times, "are you sure you are going to be ok? You don't have a license and this is a fast bike." (Or something to that effect.) The guy said that he has been ridding motorcycles since he could walk, raced dirt bikes, etc... He got on the bike, started it up, put on his helmet and then clicked it into first. He then twisted the throttle completely open (bouncing off the rev limiter) and just let go of the clutch. The salesman tried to stop him but was too late. It raised up and he fell off the back landing on his butt. The Honda shot across the parking lot in a wheelie and slammed into a Honda Prelude. It hit the front of it straight on with the front wheel hitting the hood and the bumper wedging between the frame and the front wheel. He just sat there on the ground like he was still on the bike. We ran to him to make sure he was OK. He was. His eyes filled up the opening of his full face. We were in such shock that we didn't even laugh about it until much later.

He probably would have has similar results if it was a Rebel 250. But with less damage to the bike and the Prelude. He obviously was one of the people Rickety says should have never been on a motorcycle in the first place.

You are right about a sportbike not raising up into a wheelie easily. They have such a forward weight bias that it is not as easy (on a stock bike) as it looks on Superbikes. My Superhawk wheelied at will and it had a lot less hp than my gixxer. It just did not have as much of a forward weigh bias.

I never said that it was fact that any bike was too powerful. I was attempting to make the point that a smaller bike is better to learn on. I do agree that a GSX500 is a great beginner bike (I have said that before). I like the 650 twins and 500 twins. I didn't really make it very clear, but I was referring to the super sports (R6, GSXR, ZX6). Being careful and using some common sense (unlike the guy in my last post) and you can learn on anything. I was just trying to make the point that a smaller bike makes it easier to learn the basics. In my opinion.

I guess I did. Sorry. I need to proof read better. Sorry. I have been overwhelmed with stuff lately and I took it out here. I will try to be better.

PS, You would not believe this, but, I stumbled across a forum dedicated to the best first bike! Kawasaki ZZR 600 | Best Beginner Motorcycles

Yeah but how does someone without any knowledge of motorcycles go about that? They go to these forums seeking good information. I believe that a smaller bike is good to start on and work your way up from there. There is a reason that small bikes hold their value so good. I rode a Rebel for a year and got my money back plus. I learned a LOT from that bike and was kinda sad to see it go. My opinion read that again opinion is that a smaller bike is better to start with. NOT a race replica. I guess I need to let this one go now.

I know that my bike wasn't a perfect first bike to start on but its nice now that i know how to ride it all is well. I have 98hp to work with and it will last me a long time. Yeah its an older race replica but it happens. I respected the bike so i never got bite by it.

Well, I think your new rider should take an MSF safety course. I think he/she should buy a DOT approved helmet. I think he/she should be made aware of the capabilities (pros and cons) of all cycles being considered. Then he/she should be able to make up his/her own mind. Seeing as none of the 'professionals' on this forum can help.

Why are you going over 90 on public highways? That kind of stuff is why sport bikes are frowned upon by the general public.

Am I reading this right? You're doing 90 to start, see a dangerous car and speed up from there to put it where you want it?

Going 90 on a public road (or freeway) on a bike running from a car? One of two things is going on...

or...
