| Hi to all good enough to read my new post, I bought my 97 gsxr 600 on friday and since riding it a couple of days i thought the chain was loose, so checked the tension and it did need doing. But the problem is still there, what it is sounds like is the chain slapping as i change gear up or down, but not every time, so i took it to a friend who has owned a bike for a number of years, he held the front brake in and knocked it in gear and flicked the clutch untill biting point, at this point that odd noise happened, it's starting to get on my t-ts a little now, So, is there any one with any ideas or is this normal for these bikes, hope you understand my meaning. thanks regards Ian |

| Can you describe the sound a little more? Normally a slipping clutch doesn't make clicking noises. I thought you just had a worn chain until you mentioned the test your friend did. Please fill out your profile. You give a little, you get a little.

If the chain is not worn, then it probably is just in BAD need of some lube.

| I would check the chain stretch and sprocket wear and rear cush drive for excessive wear. From there is may be an excessively worn clutch basket. If not any of the above, you are looking at the gears and I am thinking the primary drive gears more so. But with out seeing the bike in person, it is only a guess.
