| M-J.Com Master Poster ![]() | I finally broke down and got the Ram Mount for my Garmin GPS V. My only %%%%% is I need to wire the unit to the bike for consistent illumination for night riding. Other than that im pleased with the looks. (I thought it was going to be horrific) Also I thought the unit looked flimsy online; I can say its not. It's very well built and at highway speed I noticed very little buffeting. Screw you guy’s im going home................ Last edited by Rockhead; 04-22-2006 at 03:51 PM. |

| If the wiring is like the C50, you have auxilliary power inside the headlight bucket - you can attach a cigarette lighter receptacle there and not have to chop the end off the Garmin power cord.

| You are going to like the GPS V. I've had mine on 3 bikes with the Ram mount. Very stable. One thing.....I only ran mine with batteries (25 hour life) and had to insulate them by placing 2 thick rubber bands between the top two and also the bottom 2 batteries. Then I put dialectic grease on bottoms and tops of batteries, because, in time the jiggling will cause it to go on and off. A well made unit...I bought mine in 2003 and just had it worked on ($50 for new memory battery) Now I use it for a back up since I just put a Garmin 2610 hardwired. It is outstanding!! Color is a great thing. They sell a kit for hard wiring. And yes, it will be brighter with it. By the way, watch out for the antenna flying off.....a common thing. Then you can get a remote magnetic gain antenna that you can slap on something metal.....works a little better. You're gonna like that thing! |

| Not sure if the Garmin is like the Delorme, but my Delorme operates on 5 volts (I'm pretty sure it's 5...), so be careful. I MUST use the cigarette lighter adapter because that's what transforms the incoming DC from the M/C battery down to 5 volts. I can't just hardwire it.

| I'm sure Rockhead will take that into account... two years ago.
